Im not sure you can,if your cluster isnt working properly you might have to buy a different one from a junk yard

You can try doing a re-calibration of the cluster. To do that.....
Begin the test with the ignition switch in the OFF position. 2. Depress the odometer/trip odometer switch button. 3. While still holding the odometer/trip odometer switch button depressed, turn the ignition switch to the ON position, but do not start the engine. 4. Release the odometer/trip odometer switch button. 5. The instrument cluster will simultaneously begin to illuminate all of the operational segments in the VFD units, and perform a bulb check of each operational LED indicator. The VFD segments and LED indicators remain illuminated as each gauge needle is swept to several calibration points and back. If a VFD segment or an LED indicator fails to illuminate, or if a gauge needle fails to sweep through the calibration points and back during this test, the instrument cluster must be replaced. 6. The actuator test is now completed. The instrument cluster will automatically exit the self-diagnostic mode and return to normal operation at the completion of the test.

My odometer working but not speedometer in a 06 jeep commander what can i do to fix?


that is a serious problem on any newer car,
its all electronic and FORT KNOX , tight.
The PCM runs that speedo and odemeter and are now not related
to the insides of the speedo head, like list 100 years. 1900 to now.
POWER TRAIN control MODULE, (old name ECU/ECM)
the PCM stores the miles and then sends them to the Cluster. via the comm bus. (sometimes the BCM is the middle man here)
TIPM (Total Integrated Power Module)
the PCM also knows car speed, at all times, (VSS sensor)
and sends live speed data, full time to the head.
so scan it. Not doing a scan is FAIL time. a NO WIN deal.
take a scan tool and scan it. see what errors you get.???????

Like VSS dead.? or comm bus errors?, or cluster module errors.?

also on the newer cars 1998+? there is self test in the FSM.
the FSM is a book , (sold at dealers) and is factory service manual
and in said manual there are the self tests. (for sure)

you push buttons and key actions, then the CLUSTER does its a dance. it wags all gauges. etc.
if the speed dont wag the head is bad.

my 08 jeep, I can do this.
on older years, only the dealer scan tool DRB or? can only do that.

RTM , read the FSM or get it serviced.
there are only 2 choices, on cars now.
1 RTM or 2 get help.
You can not fix modern cars without this manual.
nor with out a scan tool. (I use Innova 3160 to cover jeeps)

The instrument cluster actuator test will put the instrument cluster into its self-diagnostic mode. In this mode the
instrument cluster can perform a self-diagnostic test that will confirm that the instrument cluster circuitry, the
gauges and the indicators are capable of operating as designed. During the actuator test the instrument cluster
circuitry will position each of the gauge needles at various calibration points, illuminate each of the segments in
the Vacuum-Fluorescent Display (VFD) units, and turn all of the indicators ON and OFF again.
Successful completion of the actuator test will confirm that the instrument cluster is operational. However, there
may still be a problem with the CAN or LIN data bus, the Powertrain Control Module (PCM), the Totally
Integrated Power Module (TIPM), the Controller Antilock Brake (CAB), the All-Wheel Drive Control Module
(AWDCM), the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC), the compass module, the Sentry Key REmote Entry
Module (SKREEM) (also known as the Wireless Control Module/WCM), or the inputs to one of these
electronic control modules. Use a diagnostic scan tool to diagnose these components. Refer to the appropriate
diagnostic information.
1. Begin the test with the ignition switch in the OFF position.
2. Depress the odometer/trip odometer switch button.

Gauge cluster


Hi Penny, I'm glad to help! We see this all the time at the dealership. Sometimes a voltage spike will cause the gauge neetles to go in the wrong direction and they will stick behind the little pins that stick outward from the gauge. If you will look very close to see if the needles or on the wrong side of the pins. If they are there is a cheap way and an expensive way to fix the problem. NOTE: The expensive way is to take it to the dealer and have them re-calibrate the cluster. NOTE: The cheap way is. If you know someone mechanically inclined, you can have them remove the cluster and turn it upside done until the needles fall back to the correct side of the pins. Speedometer is not working, but tachometer is and no lit up needles


i would recmend changing the cluster as you have changed the vss and it seems to have other issues with lighting up other needles in the cluster

After disconnect and reconnect the battery of my opel antara, the indication of odometer displays only 888... for all indications. How can i reset it?

Vehicles equipped with tachometer have an electronic vacuum fluorescent transmission range indicator (PRND3L),odometer and trip odometer display. Vehicles without tachometer are equipped with a cable-operated transmission range indicator.
Instrument cluster is equipped with the following warning lights:
Battery voltage.
Cruise (speed control).
Door ajar.
Fasten seat belt.
Lift gate ajar.
Low fuel level.
Low windshield and washer level.
Traction Control.
The Body Control Module (BCM), which receives input from various sensors, sends display information to instrument cluster and operates gauges. Instrument cluster incorporates a self-test diagnostic feature to identify electronic problems. The needle on my speedometer has flip all the way around how do i fix this problem


if it passes the stopper it has. since they are electronic needles you need to open cluster and you need to correct its position by hand.

first remove negative cable from battery. then remove trims surrond bezel if any. remove top screws, remove inner screws which holds assembly in its place. remove sockets careflully. while you are there you can replace illumination related bulbs too (probably t10 type bulbs and you may try 5050 smd type led bulbs too).

after taking dash board out of car, remove clips holding clear plastic on cluster. correct position of speedometer while thinking you are stopped(since car is off) and do not touch other needles since they may lost their calibration(like fuel gauge).

that is all. installation is in reverse order. remember to clip sockets at back.

My speedometer is not working right. How do i fix it?


The problem is usually defective stepper motors. If you are electronic and mechanical minded,
order new stepper motors from ebay. ( http://stores.ebay.com/GM-Cluster-Repair )
A set of six replacement motors are around $30.00 and it should take you around 1 hour to complete. I would also recommend getting replacement light bulbs while you have the cluster dis-assembled. After replacing the motors temporarily plug the circuit board back into the wiring harness, with the key in the off position. This will cause all of the stepper motors to find the home or zero position. Re-assemble the cluster being very careful not to rotate the motor while installing the gauge needles. Aligned the needles to the lowest gauge line for all gauges (MPH, RPM, Fuel, Temp, Oil and Voltage). If you have chosen to only fix the one that is broken, (not always a bad motto) you only have to test and calibrate one item. Apply power once more with the key off, before re-assembly of the cluster to verify all of the gauges align to zero. Re-assemble the cluster and the dash. It would be a good idea to verify the speedometer needle has been placed on the stepper motor correctly, by comparing your indicated speed with a GPS.
If you do not know how to properly de-solder, or have a friend who does, I would recommend the cluster repair service ( http://stores.ebay.com/GM-Cluster-Repair ) for repair for $58.00.

Speedo wont work after battery replcement


The needle probably went all the way around while your battery was marginal. I think all you can do is bring it to the dealer and they can calibrate the cluster. That should bring it back to the proper position.
