How to replace the head gasket on an 86 FORD BRONCO

A torque wrench to tighten the bolts to spec. Necessary tools to remove the head bolts. A gasket scraper for the rocker cover gasket and the head gasket.. If you have a blown head gasket the chances of a warped head is about 98%, so be prepared to have the head machined flat before reinstalling the head. You might want to do a valve job and replace the valve stem seals since you're going to remove the head. If you decide to do a valve job, you MUST do both heads or the engine will never run good.

Are the liftes adjustable on a 1992 ford expolrer

No,
You should have hydraulic lifters. They pretty much "self adjust". If work was done and the heads were removed or anything like that then there is a procedure for setting the pre load.

Is that a 4.0L? I seem to recall hearing about a lifter type tick. If this is your issue, what I have heard was they have bad pushrods. They mushroom and cause a ticking sound. If this is the case the pushrods and rockers should be replaced.

I have a blown head casket can I fix without removal of the heads

No, the gasket is mated between the heads and block!! Also, when you have a blown head gasket, its very possible it caused other problems within.

You will have to remove everything off intake and then remove it, then remove head. Replace headgasket and intake gasket and reinstall everything.

Most head gaskets don't get in the oil, just leak into the combustion chamber, your friend is probably right, have another shop confirm his diagnosis
