if it is leaking where it connects to the radiator it might be the radiator itself. take it to a shop and they can pressure test. some shops won't even charge for test.
if it is leaking in the frt of engine, right hand side of vehical it could be a coolant pump or the plastic coolat pipe that goes between the lower intake and belt tensionor assembly,if it is leaking from the rear of the engine, left side of vehical,it may be the thermostat housiny seal, upper intake gasket,or upper radiator hose,if it is leaking in the front of vehical,it may be the radiato r cap or radiator, hope this helps you out
I had a problem similiar to that, it ended up actually being a small 5/16 coolant hose that went to the head (one for each side). it was difficult to find but right where the hose enters the engine it was cracked and leaking. it's kind of behind each side of the coil rail.
HI, The easiest way to find a cooling system leak to preform a pressure test. This test requires the use of some special equipment so I will just give you some common areas of these engines that leak. 1. check the upper radiator hose at the radiator. the plastic tank cracks sometimes. 2. check around the thermostathousing. 3. The worse for last there is a coolant passage tube that runs under the intake manifold almost impossible to see without taking things apart. but when it leaks the coolant seems to show up n the floor on the passenger side back by the firewall. I hope these help and you can locate the problem. Be careful when looking for these problems when the engine is hot you can get burnt. Good luck
The upper intake has a egr port right next to a coolant port, the egr is exhaust gas that is recyled into the intake for emission control. On a long trip the exhaust burns a hole between the two ports causing your problem. Pretty common on the 3.8. My suggestion is to stop driving it until you have it repaired, reason being is the coolant can travel down the intake and fill up the cylinders. If that happens, worst case you can damage a rod, but you will be stranded.
there are two sensors on that cooling system, one for the gauge or light in the car the other to turn on the fans at operating tempature. to test for a thermostat issue, as the car comes up to temp check to see if the upper and lower radiaror hoses are the same temp, (laser thermoter recomended) i use my hands. if one is hot and one is cold than a thermostat is stuck closed. and yes a leak can cause a problem with both the temp sensor and the thermostat.
that is a common problem with upper intake ..when starts going bad usually you will have excessive white smoke out exaust pipe or check oil on the dipstick for milky color oil . if it gos bad it will cause the motor to hydro lock. thats when antifreeze gos into the clyinder causing the motor to lock up.. and as cost most places charge $1100 to $1500 for that repair..most of the time you wont see a leak because it leaks inside the motor. hope this helps
Having coolant leaking problems, everytime the car runs it runs hot, coolant filled, when car is then turned off coolant leaks out on drivers side underneath radiator. Hissing sound also on drivers side when running hot.
