Trouble installing KN air filter in 2004 RX330

I ordered a K&N filter for our RX330. I confirmed it is the proper filter.
I just can't seem to get it in so that the airbox resets and aligns properly. The KN is a bit different from the stock filter in that there is a high and low side, whereas the stock filters gasket is in the center and the "top" and "bottom" are equal on both sides of the rubber gasket.
Also, the KN is not marked "front" or "top" like the stock filter so I can't tell which direction to face it (which may not matter) or which side to face up or down (which probably matters a great deal.
Can anyone help?
Thanks.

I finally got it on but there's something about it that keeps the KN from being just a drop in.

To Bunnydawg: There ARE some KN applications that require special duct work. I think these are for more high performance jobs. They also make a complete line of drop in replacements.

Interesting that while I had the air box open I looked far down in the box and found a small piece of wood that must have been blown up into the air intake under the hood. I also found a completely dried out carcass of a small mouse. No telling how long that had been in there!

If you run your finger around both side of the filter you will notice that one side has more oil on it

The side with less oil on it goes toward the throttle body

if you cant tell go contact k and n at (800) 858-3333 be sure to know make and model and year at time of call
Hope this helps

If i'm not mistaken when you use the KN filters you also need to buy the special duct work for it too. might want to go to their website and confirm it tho.

When should you replace the inside air filter for an rx330.I have 50k miles it's 2004

The cabin air filter is usually replaced at the same time as the air filter. They are pretty much the same thing. So, if you haven't replaced it, then go ahead.

The Lexus Severe Maintenance Schedule is every 60,000 miles which should be in your owners manual, dealers sometimes make up their own.

KN air filter and induction kit

You need to get a bolt on Tophat adaptor and bolt it to the electrical box. The adaptor has a square end to bolt onto the induction box and a circular hole to accomadate the new filter. i have a 93 GLXI colt and it is a bit of work and messing about, i had alot of trouble with room because of the pipe that the electrical box fits to was too long so i cut it in half and just fits in there nicley. i got my adaptor from Motor World and had to order it, so id go there or Halfords and just ask.
