Knocking noise on 53 plate focus

I have a 53 plate fors focus 1.4, i recently had the clutch redone as it was wearing. after coming out of the garage it started making a knocking noise on the gearbox, this only happens when i move off in 1st then through the gears it is fine. the noise then only occurs again when i go into reverse, with the engine switched off, the car in gear and handbrake off i rock the car back and forwards there is a knocking from around the engine area. i have been advised this could be the universal joint for the drive shaft, or the differential has some play in it. I am just looking for some ideas to try and avoid a £1000 bill for a gearbox recondition

Thanks for the advice, unfortunatly i will not be taking it back to the garage as they have recently gone bust due to a lawsuit in which they lost drastically. the noise is only there on moving off and reversing, nothing on the steering. it has been suggested to me by the RAC techician that it may be a bearing in the gearbox

Turns out after all, it was just a engine mount that had not been tightened up after the gearbox had been put back in.

Firstly i would take it back to the garage i got it repaired at. but does the knocking get worse the faster you get or is it only on turning on full lock? if its when turning could be a faulty CV joint, could be that the driveshaft is not located back in the gearbox correctly, i would take it back to the garage

Oh sorry to hear that about the garage, if it is a bearing in the gearbox, that can be quite a bit of a mission to change, not 100% sure, but im not sure if you can get them repaired of if its easier to get a replacement gear box put in. Hppefully wont be that serious though, but definatly worth getting a garage just to double check it. just in case

that was a bit of a result, hmmm, i can see why that garage went bust after a lawsuit... glad its all sorted now though

What is the cause of a knocking noise around the gearbox area in chevrolet AVeo 2008

if you have just replaced the clutch and pressure plate in the vehicle and the noise has just started, I suspect that you have the clutch plate in back to front and the hub and damper springs and knocking on the flywheel bolt heads.
It would be a good idea to check the gearbox oil level as you may have lost more that realised when pulling the box

There are Garage websites out there now which allows you to put in the repair and garages will contact you with a price locally. According to which model clio you have the clutch kit on ebay are from 40 - 80 pounds in the UK .
Contact a local independent garage or mechanic for a price .

Knocking noise

Mechanical wear on engine, incorrect valve timing, lack of oil.
Knock sensors are detecting engine knocking so sensors not at fault. Ignore fault codes and deal with the noise.

Just had new clutch fitted on 02 ford focus 1.6 now making noise but stops when i press clutch down

A couple of things comes to mind, when you press the clutch you disengage the transmission. When the clutch is not pressed the transmission still spins inside even when it is in neutral. Sounds like a bearing inside the transmission is making noise, did they put fluid back in the transmission? Also another common source of noise is the throw out bearing, it is on the input shaft, it is the actual part that presses against the clutch pressure plate, usually though they make noise when the clutch is pressed and quiet down when released.

Ford Focus 2005 LX TDI 1.8 Estate - gratting/knocking/clunking noise from clutch (?) when accelerating, when engaging clutch at standstill, gonna take a look tomorrow - any ideas what to look for?

Most clutch problems are related to disengagement meaning when you have the pedal depressed. That typical noise is then made by the throwout bearing.
I'm not sure you have identified the source yet since accelerating doesn't have much to do with a clutch that is engaged. A worn clutch reveals itself by slipping; the motor runs faster than it should for the speed of the car and no longer synchronized with with the acceleration.

How easy is it to replace a noisy clutch thrust bearing. 53 plate Ford Focus 1.6 petrol zetec.

The thrust bearing is normally a part of a new clutch kit.Comprises pressure plate, clutch plate and thrust bearing. You will need to remove the gear box to change the bearing. The bearing basically slides onto the gearbox shaft. Recommend changing all three rather than just the beaing. You may want to get quotes from garages as dealers are expensive.
