Question about 1990 Lincoln Town Car

1 Answer

Windshield wipers just stopped working, but i can hear the moter.

My son has a 1990 Lincoln Town Car,and last week it was raining and we were stopped at a stop light when for no reason the windshield wpiers just stopped working.I can hear the wiper moter working, and when you move them by hand the wiper will not raise up on it's own,but it will go down on it's own.Are the moters shot, and do i need to get new ones.If so how hard are those to change out ?

Check the link from the motor to the drive shafts to see if the cable snapped.

There isn't a cable, its a flat bar with push on connectors at each end one of which has probably popped off
You need to take off the mesh panel that goes the width of th car just below the wind shield to access this.
There is only one motor and if you can hear it working its probably OK

Intermittent wipers are controlled by mufti-function switch (under steering wheel). However, Ford saw fit to include a 'rain sensor'. Located Windshield Front Center. Please provide more info if this doesn't help.

Fuse for windshield wiper motor

It may be the windshield wiper module instead of being the motor, since you have had that replaced 3x already. There should be no fuse issue.
