Right sliding door was getting really hard to close and open. Now it won't open at all. What could be the problem?

Do you have the child lock engaged? It sounds like either you have the child lock engaged or your vehicle thinks the child lock is engaged.

SOURCE: sunroof won't close
I hate when that happens. Because of the urgency you may want to go to a shop on this repair. These work several ways and sometimes you need to remove the headliner to fix them.
Some were put in at the Dealer and you need to identify the brand before you know what you have. Can't say if Mazda used more than 1 supplier if it was Factory installed.
The best way to see something like this is at a Salvage yard, but removing the headliner can be okay when it belongs to the Salvage yard.
