Question about 1997 Mazda MX-6
94 2.5Lv6 very hard to start/floods easily;when we take the plugs out the are very black. i have new distributor cap, plugs and air filter. No engine code. Any ideas thanks.
EGR will throw a code, 02 sensors will throw codes too and the check engine light will come on. Seeing you have a 94 you can check the codes with a paper clip. Check mx6.com on how to diagnose codes. Seeing your car is so old now someone might have taken out the check engine light to sell it.
Usually if the 02 sensors aren't working properly it will run rich. But my car runs rich all the time.
As for vacuum leaks, if you have an after market Cold air intake check the hoses that go into the elbow. Also, try to keep the VAF level. You might want to take a look at your throttle body plate to see if it has any gaps, I had an aftermarket one and the bronze plate shrunk under the heat. It would idle from 800 rpm to 3500 rpm back and forth.
Try adjusting the Idle air screw if you already haven't. Make sure the intake manifold has no gasket leaks.
Hope all this helps.
