try over riding the starter relay on the fender ,it has one there right?. dont go to a mechanic yet. the engine aint seized. if it doesnt have this relay then i would get the alternator tested. if you want to test it yourself it can be costly for the right equip. autozone usually tests for free. i dont know were you live so if theres not an autozone. let me know if you cant get it tested.

SOURCE: ba falcon heater

Just had the same thing happen to my BA. No hot air. I'm a bit of a handyman so I had a go myself. 8 Hours is a reasonable estimate. You have to remove the steering column and entire dashboard to get the bugger out. Not a job I would attempt again.

Where is the ignition switch located?

Its a simple 5 or 6 pisition switch located on the steering coloum derrictly behind the key switch where you but the key into the lock cylinder and this needs to be removed to repace the ignition switch along with trim parts that cover the steering coloum . Idon't have a manual for your year but its alwas a bit tricky because they don't people to be able to pop the key switch out and steal your vehicle so there speical bolts that need to be drilled out or break off when tightened to a spisific torque . A nd its hard to test the switch unless its out of the vehicle well don't kill the mesinger i just told the truth

Where is the power steering fluid located in 96 ford explorer

The power steering runs off the fan belts so it has a pulley usely on the upper right side as you face the vehicle it depends on if you have ac or not but it hoses comeing up to it from the steering box thats at the end of the steering coloum that attaches to the steering wheel follow the coloum to the box then follow the hoses to the steering pump there will be a removable cap on it with a small dip stick that will say cold full and hot full on it put the fluid in there fill to level depending if its hot or cold And all ford power steering pumps tend to leak so don,t be alarmed if you have to add some from time to time see if you can get some fluid that has something called seal swell in it that will help to slow any leaks
