    how to remove cross brace with bonet catch. where is it attached? I have found 4 bolts connecting wing panels are there more behind headlamps?

Possible coolant in engine oil.Also Check Engine Coolant for cross contamination.

Gas Cap Loose Service Engine Soon Light On
This can happen if the gas cap is not properly installed. Make sure you hear several clicks when installing. After 10 or so starts the Service Engine Soon light usually goes away.

A second cause could be a problem with the ground wire that comes from the gas cap sensor and goes to the body. Look up into the wheel well by the filler pipe to check.

A third can be the result of a vacuum leak in the fuel evaporator (EVAP) system. Look for any hoses that go from the air intake to a sensor on the fuel rail (fuel injected cars). Many cars have plastic engine covers that have to be removed to see the fuel rails, sensors and hoses. Most require unscrewing the oil filler to get the cover off. You may not think the hose is leaking but replacing may make your problem go away. A small vacuum leak can also affect the fuel flow and affect the engine operation.

My experience is with the 3.8 engine but this probably applies to lots of engines. On the 3.8 it is the two piece hose that comes from the air intake with one small hose going to the top of the engine and the other going across the front of the engine into a hose that does a 180 degree turn that comes back to a sensor. It costs about $25 and is a dealer item.

There may be other causes but these are three common ones.

Hi you don't say what warning light comes on but if temperature light suggest you may have Thermostat or head gasket problems , if head usually corresponds to water contamination in your oils . Check for a mayonnaise type substance around oil filler cap.

Remove oil filler cap which is normally on top of the rocker cover look at underside of cap, the side that goes into rocker cover, and if it is covererd in a white oily substance or if the tube that the filler cap goes into has the white gunge in it yo have oil and water / coolant mixing in your engine

My car is slow in starting making white smoke when fires up smells a bit fuel y.it is also low in power when driving under 2500 revs.any ideas to this problem not believe to be maf or air sensor
White smoke is usually a sign that there is a problem with the cooling system. Blue smoke is fuel related.
Have the cooling system checked at a guess I would say this is water leaking into the cylinders which indicates a cylinder head gasket fault. A faulty cylinder head gasket would also cause slight loss of compression which could explain the loss of power. remove the oil filler cap on the engine if there is a sign of a light brown (cream) coloured substance (water contaminated oil) on the cap or in the cover then the head gasket needs replacing also check the dipstick.

they stick like regular ,get a pair of grips and turn it anticlockwise and i promise it will come off ,happens all the time whenever i service a citreon or a peugeot ,and a ford as they all use the same engine (diesel)

Possibly head gasket failure (HGF), do you need to keep topping it up with coolant? Are there any traces of oil in the coolant? Is there a mayonnaise like substance in the oil filler cap? If all of the above, then almost definitely head gasket failure.
If so, get the new multi layered steel gasket kit (available on ebay at a reasonable price), it includes the through bolts holding the engine together. Oil will need flushing, coolant will need flushing, head will need pressure testing. Cooling system MUST be free of airlocks when refilled, or the same thing could happen again.

Temperature gauge is notoriously inaccurate, mine blew a hose last year, all coolant lost, temperature gauge still read normal! Fortunately had just picked up a new hose, so road side repair (thanks to AA) was possible with no further damage. The gauge only measures water temperature, so when there is a coolant loss, and there is no coolant at the temperature sensor level, it stays at normal!!! Daft or what?
If coolant loss is the problem due to HGF, also try to get a new header bottle with a coolant level sensor, this will let you know when you suffer a coolant loss as soon as it happens.

If you're not mecahnically minded, this isnt a job for you.
There is no filler cap for gearbox oil. The gearbox will have a level check plug, and a separte drain plug. Both will probably require a specific plug tool to remove (i.e. not just an ordinary spanner or socket), and can only be accessed from underneath the car.
Gearbox oil level has to be checked with the car level, so a garage will put the car on a lift so they can work underneath it. So, even if you jacked it up (never work under a car only supported by a jack ! Use ramps or axle stands as well) and could get at and undo the plugs, the car wont be level and therefore you wont put the correct amount of oil in.
Suggest you take it to a garage.

White fumes in the engine oil filler cap
Sounds like you have blown the head gasket when it got overheated.. The white stuff in the oil cap is emusified oil, a bit like mayonnaise.
You will almost certainly need to replace head gasket and service the cylinder head.

Smoke problem
Sounds as though you have water in the oil. The white smoke is the steam. Check your oil by taking the dip stick out and if it looks like mayonnaise then your head gasket will need replacing. Once the head is off the engine block, there is no way safely to say how much work will be needed on the cylinder head. If the head gasket has blown then you will need to fit a new timing belt also.
