One way to tell a bad thermostat in a car is if the car overheats frequently even if there is water in the radiator.Stuck open - no heat from heater, temp gauge hardly moves off of cold.
Stuck closed - overheats engine, temp gauge quickly climbs to hot.listen for any rubbing, grinding, or whining noises from the pump. look under water pump while running, if pump is going bad. water will come out of weep hole on the bottom of the pump. good-day!
Check your battery for voltage! You need minimum of 650 Cold crank amps to start the vehicle in cold weather. If your battery is at 12Volt range start the engine and check again for alternator recharging it It should be at 13.5 Volts range!
I would check the idler pulleys on the belt first. Then maybe the alternator. If your battery is getting a little weak it could be working the alternator hard when you first start it up. I don't know how loud it is though. The alternator wouldn't be real noticeable but some people would hear it.
This may be related to a loose battery cable or alternator concern, low voltage can cause these concerns as well as an alternator problem, also this could be related to the body control module, Go to a Kragen, Auto Zone and have the battery and alternator tested, it's free, let me know the results.
