SOURCE: Hi: I read your answer to

Very correct the ECT is a 2 wire thermistor, when coolant temp increases, the resistance andsignal voltage decrease,If you disconnect the sensor the fan goes on, you just trouble shooted the vehicle cooling fan switch, If anything the signal to the gauge itself may be non-op and not getting to the indicator, try this with vehicle at warm up temperature if you turn the A/C does the fan turn on.it should if it doesnt the power juction box (fuse and relay in engine compartment should be checked, for any opeen fuses, By the way the guage information is from the PCM

Radiator fans not coming on. replaced thermostat and cooling sensor

Hi Bill, is the engine actually getting hot enough for the fans to come on? if the engine does have overheating problem (but you say the temp gauge reads normal) then i would check the operation of the engine temp switch, there are two, one for the gauge and one for the fans.

Why does the teptuer gauge go up HOT when the holden comadore vt is idling on the lights and falls back down when you start to drive.

first look to see if the cooling fan(s) come on when the temp gauge reads hot or above half way mark. I suspect the coolant temp sensor is faulty and not sending correct temp reading to pcm and is not turning on the cooling fans.. other possibility is the cooling fans are burnt or relay to fans also ..I would check fans first then relay info back here for more advise.

Car temp gauge reads hot but it doesn't seem to be running hot. I have changed the thermostat, cooling fan sensor and temp gauge sensor, still reading almost hot to the red. The water is flowing through...

From your description, it does not sound like it is actually running hot.
Might be a faulty gauge or computer unit.
I hate to say it, but sometimes worth taking to the dealer to check annoying ones like this.

2007 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD. I was driving and my digital dashboard reported engine hot and AC turned off. My temperature gauge read cool. What do I need to replace?

This sounds like a bad coolant temp sensor that give computer false reading, check the coolant temp sensor connector and if it is good with no bad wires to connector then replace coolant temp sensor , when the computer gets a signal from temp sensor that engine is hot it turns fans on high speed to cool radiator and displays a/c turned off , if this truck does not have electric cooling fans then they wont run just explaining what happens depending on engine and cooling set up. replace coolant temp sensor and check connector.

ECT sensor.
Engine Coolant Temp sensor is faulty.
When motor gets certain temp, this "Plugtype" sensor is supposed to turn on fan.

My car temp gauge showed over heating at highway speed. Then upper rad hose blew. Pulled over and had car towed home. I have a Matco tools code reader. Computer doesn't show any codes. Why would that...

Using your tatco code reader, select current data (real-time data) and select engine coolant temp sensor (ECT). Run engine to operating temperature (A/C off). Monitor the temp reading - when the temp reaches approx 204 deg farenheit, the fans should kick on, after the temp drops to approx 198 deg farenheit, the fans should turn off. The fans are controled by the ECM (Engine Control Module). The ECM controls the cooling fan relays.

Temp gauge often reads too hot, engine normal.

It sounds like your cooling fans are not comming on by themselves, but when you turn on the ac it forces them to turn on. Make sure relay is good, then replace coolant temp sensor, this may have failed no telling pcm to turn on cooling fans. Thanks
