Hi, My Toyota Hilux 3000d (5L) diesel engine gave of puffs of white smoke while driving started to jerk. I pulled over and switched the engine off. It battled to restart, it eventually started and drove for about 10 km. The vehicle was switched off for about 15 minutes. When I tried to restart the engine kept on switching off, it refused to idle. I pumped the fuel filter and the vehicle eventually started. The fuel filter was changed and the engine is still doing the same things (refusing to idle, giving of puffs of black and white smoke, jerks while driving after eventually started). What is the cause of this problem? Appreciate your assistance. Thank in advance. Kind regards.

I see that you had the injectors replaced 20,000 miles ago. I would still check the oil to make sure it is not overfull. The new injectors could be bad. If the oil level is not overfull then get a paper towel and touch the dip stick tip on the paper towel while oil is on the dip stick. If it's only oil it will not spread. If it has diesel in the oil the oil with spread. If this test doesn't show the injectors to be bad then you have three other possibilities. The FICM (fuel injection control module), the fuel pressure regulator, or the injection pump. It's hard to pinpoint what the problem is without running more tests and the only way to run those tests is with the computer the dealership has. Just so you know your injectors are still under warranty until 100,000 miles. Most likely you will have to take it to the dealership to get you truck fixed. I hope this helps you some.

The jerking can be your MAFE SENSOR. aRE YOUTELLING ME YOU ARE GOING TOTAKE OFF YOUR AIR INTAK DUCTING AND GO TO A METAL SECTION WJERE THE SENSOR IS LICATE ABD THAT ONCE YOU LOCATE IT YOU ARE GOING TO SPRAY WASH IT THOROUHHLY WITH CRC ELECTRICAL CLEANER SPRAY THAT THEY SELL AT A PARTS STORE. nOW, iF YOU ARE GOING TO DO ALL THAJUST DON'T BRUSHM RUB, OR OTHERWISE TOUCH THE SENSOR. tHE CLEANER WILL DRY QUICKLY SO YOU WON' NEED COMPRESS AIR THAT WOULD DAMAGE IT, tHEY SRE DELICATE, SENSITIVE AND LIKE A WOMAN, VERY EXPENSIVE. gOOD lUCK AND LET NE GLOW IF ALL WOTKS OUT NED
