2004 ford windstar .replaced the battery and the new battery will not hold a charge. the ford garage can not find the problem. what ever is draining the battery is unknown at this time.

Is the alt charging the battery does it run long dist fine ? If it does you have a drain some where something is corroded inside a eletrical connection cause a drain on battery over night .You need a amp meter disconnect the poss battery cable and connect the meter inline one temp to battery term the other to cable end . reading should be less then 500 millaamp or half a amp it may be 7 or 800 at first but car needs time to go into sleep mode then should drop to 500 if not start to remove fuse until it does then youll know what circuits to check.most of time its a light bulb

Recently replaced the original battery twice because the first one died after a day, and now the new battery keeps getting drained. I think its the factory alarm causing it to die. Is it?

There is a number of common faults that may cause key-off battery drain on F-150. Most common reason is not the alarm, which rarely fails in this way, but shorts at main junction box located behind passenger kick panel, power door lock and shorts inside the steering column. If the stereo is not the factory one, check also the 'memory' wire at the back of the stereo for contacts. The only way to locate a parasitic drain is using an amp (and volt) meter to track down the problem testing wiring. With battery off there must be a draw between 100 and 500 milliamps (0.1 to 0.5A according to Ford specifications for this truck).

Bought a new battery for the 2005 Ford 500. Now with the new battery, the engine and trans lights come on.

Probably when the old battery died as you attempted to start the system voltage went so low it generated random fault codes, you need to locate a code reader and have them read and reset.
