sounds like the key has lost its programming. either the transmitter is damaged from dropping it or it just needs to be reprogrammed at a mazda dealer

Does the LED light up ? if not:
You did put the battery in the right way round ?
It is polarity conscious and will only work if it is the right way round

all you have to do to reset the coding is hold the lock button down for a minute or two till the locks click locked. then test it again by unlocking them. if the button light flashes rapidly then the batt is low, which will affect the distance for use. (do the re-code right next to the vehicle for best results.)
