My Dodge Neon has been running rough and the check engine light comes on occasionally and then goes off on its own. I had a diagnostic run on it and the mechanic found that there was a misfire in cylinder #1. The injectors, and plug wire checked good but he found that the spark on cylinder #1 was weak (less than half of the intensity of the other three). The other three were strong and looked good. He suggested to replace the ignition coil, which i did but it did not help. What else would be causing this weak spark condition.

check plug gap .try a little hotter fire plug. sometimes the seals around the valve cover will let oil in around the spark plug causing it to misfire. as the 4 cyl engine has a coil pack and you cant see it till you remove it.
The ac compressor pulls a good number of horses from a 4 cyl engine. Any minor performance problem is amplified when the ac is running. You probably have a weak spark plug or wire, or an issue with an injector. Is the check engine light coming on when it is rough ?
Be careful, when its running, slowly pull each spark plug wire up, if you see sparking coming out of the side of the spark plug boot, replace the wires and spark plugs. Use the correct Champion Spark Plugs.
