Question about 2009 Saturn VUE

1 Answer

My 08 saturn vue has an odd chemical smell and film on the windshield. Had a shop visually inspect for foreign matter in heater box, and used a boroscope to inspect ducts, nothing found. R&I the blower moter, nothing. Pressure tested the cooling system both at cold and operating temps, holds pressure. tested the a/c system charge, good. used freon sniffer to detect leaks, none found. Replaced the cabin air filter. Any suggestions as to what might be this problem?

well you cant just put refrigerant into a system. 1st you had a broken line . so the compressor probally pumped all its oil out and you lost the gas. 2 after such an incident you have to have the system evacuated to remove all the air out of the lines and system. if there is any air or moisture in there it will not run right due to freezing and without oil in there you will destry your pump . i suggest that you take it to a garage and get it evacuated be fore you proceed. then you can refill it. also on your vechile it should tell you how much goes in there like 1lb 6oz and there is an amount written on the can so go by that. putting more in there will do more harm then good and cause alot of headaches and sweating. good luck have a good day

did you check if the cooling fans are working? this is very important, because they lower the pressure of the freon before passing throughout the expansion valve and getting into the evaporator, more pressure means highter temperature, , of course when you are driving the air flow throughout out the condenser lowering the freon temperature in the condenser and lowering the freon pressure at the high side, tha's way the temperature inside the car is lower ... you can have a similar problem if the condenser is partially plugged..hope this was very helpful...

1993 honda civic gives off musty smell when I turn on the a/c. The smell goes away after a few minutes but the smell comes back everytime I turn on the a/c.

the heater box will have to be removed and cleaned. over time the box accumulates organic matter (leaves, dust, dirt) and the smell is that material decomposing. there are chemicals which are designed to mask that smell, but there's nothing better than a good cleaning.

sulfur smell is almost always the catalytic converter, it's not old enough to need one but that doesn't mean it's not bad. i've seen other GM products with the same problem, take it to a muffler shop and get it tested.
