Do you have a service engine soon light or check engine light before this problem occurred? Could be map sensor/mass airflow sensor/or ecm. Check the fuses. Sometimes the ecm fuse blows out. You'll still ahve spark but it ain't gonna run. Would be nice to know what king of vehicle your talking about.

SOURCE: replaced alternator, now car won't start

disconnecting the battery on an alternator is a no no. that was how they used to ck generators but an alternator can be damaged with no load in the circuit. Try changing out your MAF sensor. 1st sensor coming out of the air cleaner. good luck.

I got a 2000 ford focus that cranks but don't starts, fuel pressure is good, good spark but spark plugs are pretty worn out can that cause it to do that?

You only need three things to start an engine.
1) Clean Fuel / Air
2) Compression
3) Spark

One of these is not working correctly. The fuel pressure is good, but the fuel line, fuel filter, injectors, or carb may be dirty or clogged. If the gas has been sitting for a long time, or could have water in it, there is potential for the gas to be gummed up, and it wont ignite. Start with clean, new gas, line, filter, and if it still wont start, move on to the #2, #3 items from the list above.
Move through the troubleshooting systematically.
Remember, you only need 3 things to get it to run!

Good luck

2003 grand am wont start

you don`t give much info so we`ll assume that it turns over when cranking.check for spark at the plugs.if no spark then have a scan tool hooked up to check for codes and also look at the data stream while trying to start the car this will help in finding the problem.if you have spark then check fuel pressure with a gage.if the pressure is not to specs then you may have a bad fuel pump.you can have someone crank the motor while you listen at the fuel tank or gas filler neck with the gas cap off to see if you can hear the fuel pump make a noise.if not you can try hitting the gas tank in the centre bottom while someone is cranking the motor with a hammer.if it starts then the fuel pump is no good.change the fuel filter at the same time.

The.check engine light is flashing and the fuel pump relay is chattering.engine won't start

dont worry about securitlight as if its not on then thats a good thing, you will need to check for spark, to do this remove a sparkplug wire from one of the coils and have someone try to start engine while you watch for the coil to spark out, if you have spark then my next step would be to check fuel. i know you said theres fuel in rail but it needs fuel pressure to start. a good way to test to see if its a fuel problem is to spary starting fluid into throtlebody and then try to start, if the engine starts and then stalls that means its a fuel problem and may be a clogged fuel filter or bad fuelpump.

My 02 Alero 2.2 won't start....replaced battery and had the starter tested which is fine...could it be the timing chain?

Ok you should check for fuel pressure and /or spark if you do not have fuel pressure then you might want to check fuses or fuel pump if you have fuel pressure not have any spark! Then you may want to check your spark module is bolted to the top of the valve cover. I don't think it would be the timing chain I would start with checking for fuel pressure and your spark module or just replace it if you have no spark. I hope this helps!

Have a 1985 buick centruy with a 2.5 seems like its loading up with to much fuel wont start.I have spark timing is good, compression good, and changed the temp sensor. tried a different maf sensor(used)...

If you have spark, and the timing is good, you are either not getting enough fuel or there is not enough compression. If you checked the spark from the spark plug wires and got a spark, try changing the spark plugs. The spark from the plugs may be too weak to ignite the fuel.

Have you changed your fuel filter? This is a very common cause of a no start condition. Have your fuel pressure tested to ensure you are getting the correct amount of fuel. Also, you could try replacing your Fuel Pressure Regulator.

My 99 jimmy died doing 60 mph now it well crank but wont start why?

You have either lost fuel to the engine or spark. You have to check fuel pressure and if that is good then check for spark to the spark plugs. If you don`t have a pressure tester to check fuel pressure then just remove the air cleaner boot to the throttle body and spray some brake cleaner or carb.cleaner into it and if it starts and runs for a few seconds then your fuel pump is probably bad.If no spark then check to see if you have spark from the coil to the distributor. If no spark then you could have a bad coil or ignition module. The ignition module is mounted with the coil.Hope this helps.Good luck.Let me know what you find or if you have anymore questions.

I have a 95 GMC suburban and my husband was on his way home and it died on him. it has gas in it and tries to turn over but wont start. what could it be?

What your going to have to do is have the fuel pressure checked. The pressure has to be 9-13 psi.If you have the 5.7 engine. If it is a 7.4 then it has to be 26-32 psi.If you don`t have a pressure tester then try tapping on the bottom of the fuel tank and if it starts then replace the fuel pump.If this is good then check for spark at the spark plugs.Let me know what you find.Good luck.

I have a '97 chevy tahoe. the engine cranks, but won't start. checked trouble codes & got cycliner misfire, O2 sensor, & catalytic converter codes. i've replaced plugs & wires. still won't...

first, check all the fuses
did you check to see if there's spark at spark plugs?
did you check the fuel pressure? you need to do that to isolate fuel and ignition system.
if there is no fuel then check for fuel pump operation
if there is no spark then check the ignition system (coil, module and wirings)
if you don't have either one then the problem is in the computer system such as crank sensor, and computer itself

Engine cranks but won't start

You need to find out if you have spark on all plugs and if you do then check fuel pressure. If you don`t then check your ignition module and coils. If you don`t have a pressure tester then put a little gas in the throttle body or spray some carb.cleaner or brake cleaner. If ti starts for a little bit then you need a fuel pump.Good luck.
