My belt keeps popping off. When I tighten the belt, the spring shakes badly. Is there a problem?

Hi John on most cars there is a free running pully on the Altenator it should free wheel back wards and turn alt shaft when going forward. These usually seize up and cause a vibration in the belt like you have described. While you are checking this check all other pulleys for alingment. And also the crank pully some have rubber mount which also fails if this is this case you will see movement between the outer rim of the pully and the inner. Hope this helps. Regards Jim...

Hi, i am changing my 1.6lt 95model ford lasers alternator belt, wich runs from the harmonic balancer to the water pump pully to the alt' pully.... Please!.... how do i back the altenator off? Not much room...

I would have thought it is a stretch belt you wind the old 1 off ( that's easy) then wind the new 1 on ( with out the tool mind even with the tool tricky) remember to wind the crank clockwise or you could jump timing hope this helps

1993 Subaru Legacy 2.2? Changed timing belt, Water-pump and Thermostat and now won't start? Fires but won't turn over?

did you know how to replace timing belt it has to be installed in a specified way or it wont start
if it broke and you replaced it then the story is different as if it breaks while running usually it also bends your valves you should see a technician for this

Need to know how to put a serpentine belt on a 1995 302 ford motor

Below the altenator is a tensioning pully, insert a 3/8" ratchet or breaker bar in the square hole on the tensioner and release the tension on the surpentine belt and remove the belt. Route the new surpentine belt in place up to the altenator and take the tension off the tensioner and put the belt over the altenator pully. Double check to make sure the belt is riding correctly on all the pullies before starting. Crank the engine over several times before starting to seat the belt. f78f558.jpg

Just changed my serpentine belt and now its getting hot. almost positive that the belt is on right. could i have done any damage when i broke my serpentine belt. it was running when it broke

First verify that the belt is on correctly. If the belt is around the water pump the wrong way it will spin the water pump backward and not correctly circulate the coolant causing it to overheat. When you drove it without the belt did you overheat the motor? How quickly does it overheat? Does thermostat ever open?

The belt that runs the water pump on 1995 Auora

Looks like the belt got hot??? You mean there are shreds of belt material all over the place? If so you have a locked pully somepalce. Replacing the belt is easy, find the diagram of the belt system under your hood. Find the pully that is the tensionor pully. Fine the correct wrench, remove tension, slip of belt from one pulley. remove belt completely, then, since you have shredded belt material, spin each pulley and see which one isn't turning easily. All the pullies will spin easily execpt for the crank. If you have one that's not, well, that one is shot. Needs to be replaced. And if may not just be the pully, might be the accesory which the pulley sits on. Example, water pump, altenator, etc....

SERP BELT KEEP BREAKING EVERY 30 MILES

For the belt, did you have it on perfectly? If it's off one ridge, it will wear out and brake that quickly. If you did have in on perfectly, there might be a stuck pully someplace. Can you spin all pullys easily? Execpt for the crank that is of course. If not, that pully is causing the problem or I should say what ever the pully is attached too. Like altenator, steering pump, etc... As for the no start, I assume you mean it's not cranking over? I'm making sure, no offense intended. It was running fine then you shut it off, it wouldn't crank? If so, sounds like the problem with altenator. Which if it's siezed, never seen one though, it could be the problem for BOTH of your problems.

The serpentine belt on this rodeo continues to fray. it appears that the belt rides to close to the inside (motor side ) of the water pump and cooling fan pulley. The air conditioner has been replaced and...

I can probably help you both. Check your powersteering pump. There is a bracket that connects it to the exhaust manifold. My braket broke and the pump adjusted forwards which allowed the belt to get chewed on. I can also help with the routing of the belt. If you have AC and power steering it travels this way, ( I can also give a picture with an email address). Put the belt in through the passenger side by the battery and loop it over the crank pully, now bring it around the water pump so that the inside of the belt is on the crank and the back of the belt is on the water pully, then it goes around the power steering and up to the AC, there is an idler pully between the altenator and the AC compressor, the belt goes under it, then over the altenator, lastly you'll need a 15 MM socket and will have to pull the tensioner to the driverside by pulling to the passenger side and puttin the belt on the outside, Use a long bar and watch that top radiator hose and the fan blades. Its a bit of a pain, but I've had to take my belt on and off so many times I don't have to look at the pictures. Plus the pictures are drawn sideways to the engine. If I'm feeling frisky I'll draw it on paint and post a link for it.
