2006 Volvo that's throwing code p0201- p0202- p0203 thru 205 all injectors are staying open

the causes of the codes are --wiring---injectors--- ECM
unless you have a wiring loom connector disconnected say at the ECM or at the engine loom for the injectors ,I would suggest replacing the ecm with a known good one as the common failure point is the ECM

Ecm control switch

No switch just EFI relay to supply power to ECM. If your ECM seems like it's not activating other system like fuel pump relay, ignition coil,etc.etc. check that your immobilizer has been disabled. Some immobilizers will disable the ECU totally. Newer models have RFID type keys that needs programming if damaged. Best to scan your car and get the error codes before replacing anything.

How to replace ecm

Check the fuse for the ecm before replacing it. If you have a ford eec diagnostic try to get the codes. If you don't have a eec code reader there is a way to get the codes out by counting dashboard blinks. If you can get the ecm to output the codes the ecm is not bad.

Had to replace ecu / ecm car stay now at low idle handler thinks throttle body issue also replaced spark plugs could

There are 3 things that must be done when replacing the ECM and all of these will cause the idle to be off as each of these procedures has to do with "teaching" the computer how to work with different sensors in order to run and idle correctly. The first would be the accelerator pedal released position learning procedure. Next would be the throttttle valve closed learning procedure and finally what's called an idle air volume learning procedure. The first 2 must be done even if the ECM was just disconnected. The last one must be done if the ECM was replaced and if you do the last one the first 2 must be done first. Nissan s are very detailed in their systems. If certain things are not done your computer/ECM just doesn't know what to do. Did the person replacing your ECM due these procedures ? It is much easier to do these with the proper diagnostic equipment but it is possible to be done without it. If you have any questions on how to do these, feel free to comment on here or email me directly at and I will be happy to try and walk you through it.

Need to know if after replacing a faulty ECM unit with a used unit, does the replacement unit need to be professionally reprogrammed or serviced in any way?

You should just have the correct ECM and PROM inside of it.
When battery power is removed from the ECM it will reset to factory defaults. When you install it and start the vehicle it may run rough. Some drive and key cycles will "relearn" the ECM.
I have seen a number of vehicles do this just after replacing the battery.

Steps to replace the ecm. do I need to unhook the battery, or anything. After it is replaced, is there any other steps like resetting anything?

Replacing and ECM is a farily involved job which will require reprogramming the replacement ECM to match the vehicle that it is installed in. Dealerships and a few independent service facilities are set up to do the reprogramming but the unprogrammed ECM may not even be able to start the vehicle until programmed so it's not a DIY kind of project. It's RARE that a vehicle needs the ECM replaced as there are a quite a few problems that can mimic a bad ECM and often an ECM problem can be fixed with a reflash update of the software. Hope this helps and good luck!
