Can you please tell me step by step instructions on how to replace the belts on a 97 Geo Prism. Also a diagram. Thanks.

belts, so you mean accessory belts. and not the cam belt.
i bet the cam belt be old, and needs service at 60k miles.

well what engine, ?
the GEO is a Toyota, Corolla in drag.
IS.
and has 4AFE or 7AFE engines. which do you have.?
1.6L or 1.8L??????
1998 they had chain drive cam engine,1.8L
photos work like magic on the internet and mostly never used here, oddly.
so a spoon fed list, and your belt is missing?
tall order, why not just login into mitchells DIY and read.
its all; there, im not spamming them, its just a book.
that you obviously dont have, and should
why work on any car DIY lacking the FSM.

if you want free facts, next time post engine type
im not doing 2 engines, ever.

if you google all cars on topic what do you get.
even youtube
1: remove belt, seems they are gone now.
2: install belt.
3: set tension to spec. if no automatic tensioners there.

each belt has a tension device on each and every belt.
some cars 3 devices if 3 belts.
is this simple?
some the alternator is the setting device.
others P/S, does or is on an other belt.

next time post photo of your engine, so the helpers dont need to guess that.

ill post some FSM book words here.
A/C compressor (always use caution when working near the A/C compressor) belt tension can be adjusted by turning the tension adjusting bolt which is located on the compressor tensioner bracket.

Alternator Belt
Animations and Tech Tips

A serpentine belt tension tester

To adjust the tension of the alternator drive belt on all models, loosen the pivot and mounting bolts on the alternator.

Power Steering Pump
Tension on the power steering belt is adjusted by means of an idler pulley (some models may use just a lower adjusting bracket setup-similar to alternator adjustment service procedure). Loosen the lock bolt and turn the adjusting bolt on the idler pulley until the desired tension is felt and then tighten the lock bolt.

login to mitchells and read. like we do.

2009 nissan altima is making a noise ...i think its the tension. has anyone ever heard of that?

older model altima need drive belt tension adjustment at 7500 miles intervals, the new models altimas has a automatic belt tensioner.i you hear noises belt tensioner could be failing.or could have leaking coolant getting on drive belt due to water pump gasket leaking or pump leaking.or alternator power steering pump could be failing many things will cause drive belt to make high squeak noises.

2001 ford escape serpentine belt diagram

Below are 2 diagrams for you because the Escape came with 2 different engines for this year. The first diagram is for the 2.0 liter engine and the second picture is for the 3.0 litler engine. Now as far as an adjustment, there really isn't one. If there isn't enough tension and you are sure the belt is good and the correct size but still seems to be to loose, then you will need to replace the tensioner. I hope this helps.....

Cant get the serpintene belt back on after replaceing the alternator

The alternator is actually adjustable to increase and decrease tension. Behind the alternator where it mounts, is another bolt that runs along a curved bracket.

Loosen that bolt and you will notice your alternator pivots. It may take some stretching but the serpentine belt will fit over the alternator. Once you have your belt over the alternators pulley, use a pry-bar against the block to adjust the alternator where the tension is tight on the belt, then re-tighten the bolt on the curved bracket so that the alternator remains stationary.

Hope this helps!

How to adjust the belt tentioner

The belt tensioner has a heavy duty spring in it were it does not need any sort of adjustments done to it. If the tensioner seems loose to you, replace it before you loose your bely while driving

The sepintine delt is loose. How do you adjust

More than likely the belt has stretched, replace this first. It could also be the tensioner... Look at the tensioner and see if it seems to jump alot with the engine running.
