thanks for the update solutions, areas i have checked are brake light switch
it is working because it activates the brake on the left and also the the light on the screen, the bulbs are working but on the right side when the brake peddle is pressed there is no light, i guess the only suspect is the earth or relay but i'd like it confirmed by a mechanic.

Fuses are a good bet. Otherwise might be a bad ground or loose wiring to bulb.

SOURCE: I have a 2001 Volvo

My 2001 S60 just had the same issue. The "check brake light" error message on the dash and the brake lights not illuminating ( the upper center glass brake light would). I found that both bulbs had failed which I replaced. The fuse was okay but still the error message was found on the dash when the brake peddle was pressed. I purchasing a dealer $30.00 brake light relay and the problem is fixed. However, there isn't a diagram anywhere that shows which relay was for the brake light relay. In my 2001 S60, the relay is in the trunk, beneath the driver side removable upholstered cover. The relay panel has ~ 10ea of the same relays and a few other odd sizes. There is a vertical column of relays on the left and right. I found the brake light relay is located between two other relays on the upper right column. It was difficult to reach due to a larger relay on it’s right.

1998 dodge neon. Left rear brake/turn signal wont work. No power to socket. All other bulbs working.

A common problem is under the contact inside the bulb holder they will either have a piece of foam rubber or a spring that pushes the contact up against the end of the bulb. A lot of the time these will become weak and not allow enough contact with the bulb to light it. Now that being said you stated you have no power to the socket so I have to assume you used either a multimeter or a test light to check it. If there is no voltage at all then you will have a broken wire some where. A common place for the wire to break is right at the little button I mentioned that is inside the bulb holder. On the under side it is common for the wire to break loose from the contact from everyday vibration. You will have to remove the bulb holder and solder the contact or get a replacement holder and splice it in.

Left rear turn signal on dodge ram 1500 won't work. bulb replacement didn't help.

Just had a similar question last week, and the solution was a bad socket/bulb holder.
You might try and see if there is current in the brake light wire leading to the bulb holder.
I have used a jumper wire and a safety pin to test the wire behind the socket.
I pierced the plastic insulation of the brake light wire with the point of the safety pin, and either use a tester or even a good working bulb and a good ground wire.
Be blessed.

Left front brakes stuckes

caliper may be sticking this will require over haul (new seals maybe pistons) do both calipers as a pair or you may find brakes will drag to the right if you only do left side I've found this out the hard way

I would like a diagram of the 740 gle 1990 tail light wiring, I cannot seem to get them working correctly

You don't really need a diagram, it's simple. If you open both tail light boxes in the trunk you will see at the connector on the bottom a yellow wire in the first position. That goes to the brake bulb. If both tail lights do not work, make sure you are getting power to the driver side light first, if it is not getting power, the passenger side will not work either, they are in line with each other. If it is only the passenger side not working, the bridging wire could be bad.. try jumping it. Also, make sure you are getting power inside the tail light bulb holder. The metal connections can come loose. If there is no power to the driver side tail light it could be the bulb failure relay, that is the round red relay in the rear left side of the fuse box behind the ash tray/ cigarette lighter below the radio in front of the shifter. You should be getting power to the third brake light in the rear window...that is a different circuit and will not be affected. Try changing out the bulb failure relay, it supplies the power to the tail lights.

Hi i have a 1999 escort van diesel the left side light keeps blowning fuses and i have no brake lights and the hand brake light stays on

Hi sounds like you have the usual escort van rear lamp nightmre start by removing the bulb holders in the rear lamps check where the wiring connecter conects to the lamp they should be clean and free of corrosion look for terminals that look black or have broken off the connecter this is so common there is a wiring repair kit available from ford to rectify this the other problem is with the bulb holders themselves should have two metal tags/contacts that pass power from the lamp to the bulbs these often corrode till theres nothing left replace them if they are like this also check you have got the right bulbs in the bulb holders they often get the wrong ones fitted causing all sorts of wierd back feeding problems to the electrical system the favourite is putting a two contact bulb in a single contact bulb holder this will cause nigthmares the other poular solution is to ditch the escort
rear lamps and fit ones from a trailer as they are made a lot better and give less trouble

I have a warning light on my v reg volvo s40 and wondered what it means. its like a orange lightbulb on the left hand side of the dash

It is the orange engine management warning light. It means that there is a problem, fault or parts that requires cleaning somewhere in your engine or parts that are connected to it.

Volvo s40 1998 bulb warning light on, what does this mean

If by that you mean:

"warning light goes on when I start the motor, and goes off after first time I use the brake pedal"

, don't worry, it's normal, it's how it work. If it stays on even after the use of brakes, you have a bad bulb on brake tail lamps
