Laws vary from country to country, state/province to state/province, and even city to city. Since you declined to state where you are, I can only suggest you consult your local authority.

How do I replace the ignition on a 1993 Buick regal custom 3.8. There are no keys to the ignition someone walked off with them so I need to replace the ignition

That veicle is equiped with the "saginaw" Delco locking steering column. GM cylinder locks, from the late 60's 7 earlier 70'swere designed with a "pick resistant" locking cylinder. All 6 wafers had to align....simulataineously for a "side bar" to drop into the wafers shaped by the key, for the cylinder to turn. Originally, a dent puller could 'pop"them out, then they were redesigned, with a retaining screw. As these failed frequently, when the spring cover would fallinto the side bar void,& jamb in the running postion, or accesorey (back0 positoin & never move again. As locksmiths were highly trained in this, & did multiple of these repairs a day. They have all the specialized equipment needed to reolace it. (my father-in-law was a locksmith) Spent a lot of nights running service calls, when he & Mother-in-law wanted private time. This would be your chapest solution for a one time deal. The tooling alone would equal near 3x's the cost of the service call.

Where are the timing marks and how do u time a 1998 Pontiac Sunfire gt? I was told there are two 14mm holes for the two upper gears and a mark for the lowers. I had a hard time getting them to line up but...

hi, all newish cars have places for locking the engine, camshaft, injection pump. the camshaft groove is under the roker cover at the back (this is a flat bar and go's across the two camshafts). the injection pump locking pin normally pushes in the injection pump spocket, the front timming cover will need to be removed. the crankshaft locking pin normally locks-up No. 1 piston there is a bolt that must be removed.this is best done with the spark plugs OUT. ALL THESE LOCKING PINS AND BARS MUST BE REMOVED AND REPLACE THE BOLT FOR No,1 PISTON. method to install locking pin on No. 1 piston bolt locking pin and turn engine BY HAND ONLY BECAUSE YOU WILL DAMAGE CRANKSHAFT AND DO NOT FORSE it any more. once the No. 1 piston is locked check the camshaft and place the BAR. next is the injection pump push the locking pin into the sprocket. remember to REMOVE ALL LOCKING PINS AND BAR AND REPLACE BOLT FOR No. 1. p. s. you can put your own marks but is NOT RECOMENDED. i hope this is useful gerry

Locked in park

I am guessing here but if it is the same as my brother in laws car there is a safety lock on the gear shift under the console, my brother in laws car locked in park and it was impossible to move the gear shift out of park.
The safety lock was the problem, I could not see why they put it there as the shifter locked into a groove anyway so I removed the lock and he has had no trouble since

How to remove ignition lock cylinder from a 1974 corvette?

The early model GM lock cylinders a re a little different than the 80's and 90's. If you have a replacement lock, you will see a small black spring loaded bar on the side of the cylinder housing. that is what holds the lock in place.
to remove it, most times you need to punch through the cast housing in the correct spot to depress that bar. Once you press the bar correctly, the lock simply slides out. the new one will slide in and lock in place by itself.
Here are the instructions and a picture to help you accomplish that.
Let me know if you have any more trouble.

Get in van. Close doors. Cycle ignition 4 times with key. Do not start. Within 10 seconds of the 4th cycle, press the lock switch on driver door panel. If you here a chime locks are reprogramed.

My door locks have been making a clicking noise and the remote dosn't work all the time to lock the doors anymore. Now the car won't start. Can I unplug the locks somehow so they don't drain the battery?

Check to see if any of the door locks aren't working by going to each door and seeing if it has refused to lock while trying the power lock on you key remote or attempting the one on the master door. If one refuses to lock, you could have a bad door soleniod which is causing your doors to get a bad signal accasionally and that would account for the problem.
