Question about 2007 Land Rover Freelander
High pitch whistling sound when vehicle is stationary. The sound disappears when you press the accelerator. Even when the vehicle is moving at high speed and you take your foot off the accelerator the sound comes back. The sound was there for a few weeks, disappeared for a few months and has now come back. Vehicle performing fine otherwise
It may be a turbocharger if so equipted, lots of turbocharged cars whistle as the unit gets older..only other thing I can think of is something with the exhaust system.. get it looked at by putting the car up on a lift and inspecting it..now some cars also whistle thru the radio ..this is called alternator whine and is usually correected by a filter in the power line of the radio...good luck

check the serp. belt for glazing ont he smooth side and for cracks on the side with all the ribs, if you have either, it's time to replace it. either way, you should remove the belt and spin and rock each pulley back and forth to check for wear or grinding. alsoif this squealing happens only with your ac or windshield defrost on, it's possible that your ac compressor has seized.
