    E36 is the platform designation. All BMW 328i models that are on the E36 platform are are considered an E36 328i. If you're comparing to an E20, or an E37 328i, those are built on a different platform. A platform is usually in use for 5-8 years.

    Yes, if it's a 1998 it is built on the E36 platform. There is a good chart at the bottom of this page that shows when each platform (and its designation) was in use:

Where is oil filter on bmw 328i located

It is located just behind the radiator in a casing that is plastic on top fitted with a plastic bolt. You need a very big spanner to open it. In side it is a cylidrical like oil filter

Comparing bmw engine sizes

Hello There

The engine in an E30 325i is not the same as the E36 328i. the 325 has a 2.5 litre engine and the 328is has a 2.8 litre engine. They are from a diffrent era. The engine in the 328i Has the engine code M52 and conpletely redesigned.
