Remove any excess weight in your vehicle. Dont drive about 55 miles per hour. Use the A/C rather than putting the windows down when driving on the highway. If you wanted to get drastic, you could remove the jack and the spare tire. Also dont fill your tank. There will be more weight with a full tank.

Bad fuel mileage

We all are. Its called obsurd gas prices! But really, get your oil changed and replace your air filter and possibly go all the way and pay for a tune up. You will see the increase in power performance and gas mileage.

Should the overdrive be on and does it affect gas mileage?

as a rule, no. many overdrives are automatic and don't engage until you reach 40- 45 mph and they do this by themselves. yes, this does affect gas mileage because the purpose of overdrive is to shift the transmission into a higher gear producing less strain on motor and ****** thereby increasing fuel mileage. conversely, if ****** is in high gear at lower speeds this increases strain (motor feels like it's lugging) reducing mileage. sounds as though you have manually selective overdrive and you will have to monitor mileage both with button pushed and without. then try pushing the button only when you reach 40-45 but you'll have to be continually conscious of the speeds at which you're driving.

Mileage

The factory tends to use lightweight oil,to increase fuel mileage,
not good for the life of the engine,if heavier oil was put in place, mileage could drop, but not much, maybe 1 mpg,are you sure it's not because of
extended warm up times or more idling than usual?

Better engine performance and gas mileage

try either a cold air intake or a chevron....a chevron is a cylinder with slots cut like arrow heads which will remove air turbulence....that alone will increase your performance at least 25% and horse power about another 40 to 50.

Should O/D off always light or unlight?

The light should normally be "off", by pushing the small button on the transmission shifter. For power or passing at high speed, push the button again to light "O/D off", signifying that the overdrive is off. Overdrive (O/D) is normally for cruising at highway speeds to maximize gas mileage. Having it off increases the motor RPM's, increasing power, and decreasing mileage and gas efficiency.

For most purposes turn "on" overdrive, and the light on the dash should go out.

Location of the PVC and gas filter on 4 cylinder 2003 Solara

The PCV and the fuel filter replacements are not going to increase you fuel mileage. What you should really consider is getting some good fuel injection cleaner into the tank, and get an "induction system cleaning". Those two items alone will address most of your mileage issues. The PCV does nothing for mileage, nor does the fuel filter. Also, for maximum fuel mileage, you should have the correct sparkplugs from Toyota in your car. "Aftermarket" plugs doe not perform very well at all.

CRV 2007 Fuel Mileage Indicator

It's probably like the old manual fuel gauge needle where it would take longer to get from 'F' to midway than from midway to 'E'. We all know that according to the gauge the last bit of gas goes faster. I think the digital readout is doing the same thing. I don't know why though.
