SOURCE: 1996 buick roadmaster keeps overheating:

A shotgun approach to repairs can really rack up the bills.

If your symptoms are loss of water and you have replaced the thermostat, you more than likely have an issue with steam. And that steam more than often comes from a bad head gasket. Most head gasket gasket failures seem to be confined to the water side initially, but let it go on bigger damage will occur.
You can buy a litmus test strip to dunk in the coolant. It will indicate if there are exhaust residuals in the water and thus a gasket failure.

However it may just be something simple, given that you have just about replaced everything:

have you given the radiator a good hosing inside and out?
is the radiator fan running when it should be?

SOURCE: 1996 jeep grand cherokee blower works but no heat

Since your blower is working and it is a heat issue, thats where we'll start,First thing is have you checked the coolant level in the radiator when engine is cold, make sure it is filled to top, next verify you have coolant in reserve ,Start your van and get it up to normal operation temperature,If your heat gauge on the dash works correctly it should be 190 degrees,Now lift the hood and locate the two heater hoses going into the heater assembly at the fire wall,Both hoses should be hot to hold on to,if both are hot and no heat inside your problem will be the blend air door in heater assembly.
if neither hose is that hot you need to replace the thermostat in the engine to get it up to 195 degrees.
if one hose is hot and one is luke warm then the heater core is blocked and to blame. hope this helps you.

My 1998 S10 Chevy pick up heater only heats when I hold the gas pedal to the floor. When I let off the gas it slowly starts blowing cold air again. what is your thoughts on this problem?

Sounds like you have a restriction in the heater core. You can try removing the heater hoses at the firewall and putting a garden hose to the bottom inlet to reverse flush the core, if this is unsuccessful you will probably need to have the core replaced.

The reason your car would start on gas then stop is because your gas converter( the big round thing on the drivers side near the exhaust) actually freezes and relies on the engine water temperature to thaw it out, when the motor gets hot, gas will flow again. There is also a fuse, from memory it is located at the top of the fuse box under the boot release

Drained radiator added prestone Radiator flush refilled and started overheating, drained radiator replaced thermostat and now I get no heat from heater,Radiator water is hot

disconnect the heat hoses going into fire wall , put hose into one with pressure and flush as it sounds like it could be bloked in the heater core, the other thing that could be the problem be the hot ,cold switch as it restricts the flow to makes the heater hoter or colder , it might need tlc or replacing as it is manaul not elec

Hi. 2005 Impala 3.4. My water pump is failing for the second time in two years. Coolant flushed after first pump installed. Coolant flushed again six months ago. Pump is failing again. Thermostat...

WATER PUMP FAILURE COULD BE CAUSED BY WRONG COOLANT USE DEX COOL ANTI FREEZE.REPLACE THERMOSTAT AND BOTH RADIATOR HOSES TOP HOSE AND BOTTOM HOSE.SOFT HOSES COLAPSE LIKE PUMP HOSE.IT WILL COLAPSE FROM PUMP VACUUM CLOSING OFF SOME COOLANT FLOW.MAKE THE HEATER CORE NOT STOPPED UP IF SO IT WILL RESTRICT WATER PUMP BYPASS CAUSE EARLY PUMP FAILURE.YOU NEED 50/50 COOLANT MIXTURE YOU HALF WATER AND HALF DEX COOL DONT USE GREEN ANTI FREEZE USE ORANGE DEX COOL.I HAVE 3.4L ENGINE AND 3.1L ENGINE BEEN USING DEX COOL ANTI FREEZE SINCE I HAD BOTH VECHICLES. HAD NO WATER PUMP PROBLEMS.

Replaced my thermostat and flushed the radiator, eng temp still high and heater only works when I'm stepping on the gas. What do I do??

Sounds like you have a bad water pump which you'll need to replace since it is only circulating at higher rpm's means the impeller is not operating in the pump

The heater will not blow hot air unless you are giving it gas

Welcome to FIxYa.com

This is a classic symptom of low coolant level or air in the system. Too, clogged heater core.

Buy a 5 min flush from your local dealer. With a gallon of Anti freeze and water pump lube. Flush the system per instructions on the back of the 5 min flush bottle. And add the one gallon of anti-freeze to system. The top off with water. Make sure engine is running with the heat selector on and fan on high.

See if the will work if not Change thermostat.

Thank you for using FixYa.com

My honda will not heat when it is sitting still give it a little gas and it wiil heat what do i need to do

Check your coolant level, more then likely low, check coolant level with engine off and cold. not enough coolant will not circula through out the cooling system at idle, till you give it gas then water pump turns faster and pushes water through out system,

No heat on 1999 blazier

Water pump may be worn and needs to be replaced. You can try flushing out the heater core it self buy disconnecting the two heater hose from the water pump and flushing water through it to get any restriction out. Once you flushed out the heater core, reattached the hose at the water pump and see if that helps. If not then your going to have to replace the water pump it self. Good luck
