The transmission will need to come out and be torn down. The reverse shift fork is probably broken.

The cheapest way to fix a tranny problem is usually to swap in a used transmission. A new 5-speed from Toyota has a list price of $2300USD.

5-spd, V6, 4x4 transmission has a toyota list price of $2300USD. Labor time is about 8 hours to R&R tranny, remove transfer & install on new tranny.

My 1995 bmw 740il wont shift into manual drive. im not sure what gear cars in but the trans isnt shifting. both of the cables to the throttle is broken i discovered could that be the problem and what

Service the transmission for the shifting issue. However going from auto to manual is an electrical switch. Car wont shift till car is at high enough rpm level.

I have a 91 honda accord with an automatic trans. & when i shift into reverse it refuses to engage & makes a high pitch gear slipping grinding sound ! NOT GOOD ! ,I just replaced the transmission con

Definitely not good. The transmission is slipping internally due to worn gears and clutch packs. It will have to come out for rebuilding, IMO. Have a transmission shop check it out.
Good luck.

Popping noise when transmission shifts to first gear slowing down

If you lost reverse and second gears, the reverse reaction shell splines have stripped out. This is a common problem on the 4l60e trans.A aftermarket heavy duty unit is available and highly recomended.

Transaxle wont shift into reverse it tries to go in but it sounds like it wont fully engage and the gears are grinding

sounds like a trans problem(internal problem) the trans should be removed and the case opened up to inspect the reverse selector and gear assembly...while its apart, may as well inspect the entire transmission internal parts,, gears , syncronizers , etc... even may as well have the clutch replaced since the trans will be out..save some money on labor

Automatic Transmission problem

You didnt specify which transmission your car has,the 3 speed, model A131L,or the 4 speed A245E.Both transmissions basically have the same elements applied internally when acquiring Reverse gear.Forward clutch off,Direct clutch and Low Reverse clutch applied. The major difference between the two available transmissions for your car is,the 3 speed trans is totally hydraulic,no electronic controls, while the 4 speed trans is totally electronic control.Check the fluid level first, regardless of trans model. If your car has the 3 speed trans,it is likely an internal trans problem.Same thing for the 4 speed model, with the exception that the problem could be the electronic solenoids malfunctioning. The solenoids should be deemed defective or good, before a determination is made.
