Hyundai Accent Keyless entry failiure - entry without alarm?
My 2004 Hyundai Accent keyless entry stopped working. I changed the battery and the light now signals it is operating but it still won't open the car. If i use the key to open the door the alarm will go off and won't stop until I press the button on the key chain (which isn't working). How do I get into my car without the alarm going off, or only going off for a short period?
You might try Opening the Door and Opening the Hood and Disconnecting the Battery. This should reset the System. If this is the Factory Keyless Entry, There is a Relay and a Fuse for this. Check them and see if they are Bad or Blown.

Your Sonata is equipped with a "Keyless Entry & Burglar Alarm" system. When the Burglar Alarm is activated, it KILLS the starting system through the used of a relay called the "Burglar Alarm Relay". This mode prevents engine starting with the key. Solution #1 Disarm the system with the Keyless Remote (key fob) If you don't have this remote (or its battery is dead) replace the battery & try disarming again. Solution #2 Enter the vehicle & insert the key in the ignition and turn the ignition switch to 'RUN'. Wait 3 to 5 minutes until the alarm stops. You should then be able to start the engine.
Have a qualified/certified Hyundai Service Technician properly diagnose this issue.
The 'Keyless Entry & Burglar Alarm System" is activated. You must 'Disarm' the system using the Keyless Entry Remove (Key Fob) to "Reset" the system. The reason the engine won't start is due to the burglar alarm - it has a "Starter Kill" circuit which is activated when the alarm is activated. The alarm must be DEactivated to DEactivate the 'Starter Kill' circuit. Another way to start the engine is to get in the car, put the key in the ignition and turn it to 'ON" and wait 3 to 5 minutes until the emergency flashers stop/turn off. Afterward, you should be able to start the engine. NOTE: This does NOT reset the burglar alarm. It will go off again when you enter the vehicle without using the remote/key fob.
The battery for the keyless entry keychain can be replaced at the jewelry counter at your local department store or a real jewelry shop. It is not generally too expensive and it will continue to
operate your vehicle's locks and alarms even if it has been dead for some time.
you can get it to crank but you just won't be able to use the keyless function without going back to the dealer first locate the ecu fuse in the fusebox under the dash, pull it out but don't put it down. Next put your key in the ignition and start turning over the motor, now the car won't crank or push oil through the motor with the ecu deactivated so don't hold it for too long. Now as your turning the motor over, reinsert the ecu fuse. The car will fire to life...you will have essentially reflashed your ecu so people with tuned ecu's beware. Your keyless won't work but hey at least now you can drive to get it fixed...as for the naysayers, yes I tried this on my tiburon and it still works fine so don't worry...good luck
Have you verified this system is running the battery down? The system you describe is called the Remote Keyless Entry System (Electronic Time/Alarm & Control System - ETACS Module). It cannot be 'disconnected' without disabling other systems (intermittent wipers, Chime bell, Door Warning, Dimming Off Room Lamp, Seat Belt indicator, remote power door lock/unlock system, etc.)

The security system keyless adapter cable (SPX/Kent-Moore P/N 09900-21300) is a special service tool (SST) that is used for programming new keyless entry remote transmitters to the factory security systems. The keyless adapter is used in conjunction with the Hi-Scan Pro (with Hi-Scan SOL Pro Software Version 09-29-03 or newer) and Data Link Connector (DLC) Cable.
The keyless adapter cable can be used on the following vehicles:
2001 - 2004 MY Elantra
2001 - 2004 MY Santa Fe
2002 - 2004 MY Sonata
2001 - 2004 MY XG300/350
The 2003 - 2004 MY Tiburon does not need the Keyless Adapter Cable to add keyless entry remotes to the factory security system. Instead, the Hi-Scan Pro connects to the vehicle using only the DLC cable. See page BE-60 in the 2004 MY Tiburon Shop Manual for the latest instructions.
The most current Keyless Adapter Cable Instructions are available in the following shop manuals:
2004 MY Elantra
BE-73 - BE-74
2004 MY Santa Fe
BE-43 - BE-44
2004 MY Sonata
