Method for changing Spark Plugs out on '99 Jeep Wrangler TJ 6CYL

Just a question. How hard is it to change out the spark plugs on these inline 4.0ltr 6cyl engines? Whats the process.
Also does anyone have a recommendation on what oil to use for the engine and where abouts the drain plug is for the gearbox sump.
Its an Automatic if that helps.

Thanks,
Daniel

    Hey Mark,

Yeah, its is my girlfriends car and it could do with a good service. It is a 4wd model.

With the auto transmission, when the car is cold it tends to slip out of drive for a few seconds whilst driving. Not sure whether changing out the gear oil will help with the problem but i think it might be low on oil which is bad.

Theres just a few minor problems really, but if not dealt with now could end up being worse down the track. When you accelerate it also makes some sort of tapping kinda noise, but when i get under the car this afternoon i will check to make sure its not a leak in the exhaust somewhere.

Plugs is easy.

I use only Valvoline as it doesn't tend to gum or sludge my engines like Penzoil or Quaker State did.

I assume this is a 4WD since your asking about the gearbox, and it's an automatic.

How to replace exhaust manifold gasket 1989 jeep wrangler 4.2

I also have an '89 Wrangler with a 4.2 liter inline six. I'm afraid that the spark plugs aren't on the same side as the manifolds. Mine is being a pain in the *** for me. The intake is lining up fine but the exhaust is off by about 1/4 of an inch in the way of a bolt. Was hoping for some solutions, left disappointed.

remove the 20" black spark plug bar, it is held down with 2 bolts on the left side of the motor (your left). the six plugs are inline under there. VERY IMPORTANT on use Champion Platuim Plugs.

On a 6 cylinder, they are located on the left side of the . There is a power pack with the spark plugs attached under it. There are 4 bolts that hold it in place and the power pack feeds the spark through to the plugs under the power pack.

Check your spark plugs. Without good spark plugs the ignition won't ignite. Just go look for Jeep spark plugs at like AutoZone and they are real cheap. To change them you will need a long socket wrench to twist them out and change each one.
