SOURCE: replacing rear wheel bearings on 1999 hyundai sonata

  1. for drum brakes with sealed hub(all one piece) remove lug nuts and wheel.
  2. spray penetrating oil around studs if there is a big phillips head screw visible remove it with impact driver/if not use big ballpeen hammer ,tap on flat of drum near studs(becareful not to hit them) until drum loosens(your creating a shockwave to loosen rust)
  3. once drum is off there are 4-bolts coming in from behind backing plate, remove them then hub should be able to be removed w/a little persuation from hammer.
with out sealed hub ,
  1. remove wheel
  2. remove dust cap,cotterpin,star washer(if equipped) do not re use cotter pin
  3. remove nut then washer, wiggle brake drum and front bearing will come out.
  4. put nut on shaft tighten 2-3 turns grab drum by sides and pull towards you this should remove drum leaving inner bearing/seal on shaft
  5. to replace reverse procedure making sure to pack new bearings w/grease(take drum and use long punch to remove bearing races, use race/seal installer to install new races
with disk brakes

  1. remove wheel
  2. remove caliper/bracket
  3. remove rotor
  4. remove 4-bolts from behind,tap old hub out
  5. reverse procedure

make sure handbrake is off take wheel off hit the drum with a mallet not steel,as it will brake,hit on outter diametter face of drum, try and rotate as you twist off

Hope this helps. This is out of the factory manual. Let me know if this works for you.
PARKING BRAKE NOTE: Tensioner adjustment is only necessary when the tensioner, or a cable has been replaced or disconnected for service. When adjustment is necessary, perform adjustment only as described in the following procedure. This is necessary to avoid faulty park brake operation.

  1. Raise vehicle.
  2. Fully back off cable tensioner adjusting nut at equalizer to create slack in cables.
  3. Remove rear wheel/tire assemblies. Remove brake calipers and rotors.
  4. Verify park brakes are in good condition and operating properly.
  5. Verify park brake cables operate freely and are not binding, or seized.
  6. Check park brake shoe adjustment.
  7. Reinstall rotors and make sure rotors turn freely.
  8. Reinstall brake calipers. Tighten guide pin bolts to 41 n·m (30 ft.lbs.)
  9. Reinstall wheel/tire assemblies after brake shoe adjustment is complete.
  10. Lower vehicle enough for access to park brake foot pedal. Fully apply park brakes
NOTE: Leave park brakes applied until adjustment is complete.
  1. Raise vehicle again.
  2. Mark tensioner rod 6.35 mm (1/4 in.) from edge of tensioner bracket Adjustment Mark On Cable Tensioner Rod
  3. Tighten adjusting nut at equalizer until mark on tensioner rod moves into alignment with tensioner bracket
CAUTION: Do not loosen, or tighten the tensioner adjusting nut for any reason after completing adjustment.
  1. Lower vehicle until rear wheels are 15-20 cm (6-8 in.) off shop floor.
  2. Release park brake foot pedal and verify that rear wheels rotate freely without drag. Verify pedal returns to fully released position.
  3. Lower the vehicle

You have a proportioning valve stuck. From the master the brake lines will run down the wheel well to another valve then out to the front calipers and rears when the prop valve sticks or freezes it then causes the rear or front system to lock up or not proportion the system evenly. 2. If that is not the case you may have contamination in the lines or the rubber brake hoses whick allow fluid to pass through it will not allow it to return almost acting like a back check valve therefore keeping you brakes on.

For front brake pads replacement you need only usually wrench set, inclusive 7 mm allen key also.
But for rear brake pads replacement you need obligatory a special caliper piston pressing tool, in order to press back rear caliper piston with parking brake automatic adjustment!!!
For front brake pads. First you must verify yours front brake disc diameter: 280 mm or 288 mm. (On my car y have 288 mm). After that you can buy the brake pads (with wear sensor). For change front brake pads you must raise vehicle, remove wheels, extract the retaining spring of the caliper, and remove the caliper as follow:
1. Do not disconnect the brake hose from the caliper, and do not allow the caliper to hang by the brake hose!
2. Remove top and bottom caps (on back side of the caliper) for access to guide pins, then unbolt and remove them from the brake carrier. Remove the caliper.
3. Now you must thoroughly clean the brake calipers (free of grease).
4. Remove outer brake pad from brake carrier.
5. Pull inner brake pad out of brake caliper piston.
6. Check up the brake fluid level on the reservor, and emptying if neccessary!
7. Push piston back into brake caliper housing.
8. Install inner brake pad (with expanding spring) in brake caliper piston. (Arrow marked on pad - if exist, must point in direction of brake disc rotation when vehicle is moving forward).
9. Install outer brake pad into brake carrier.
10. Bolt brake caliper housing to brake carrier using two guide pins. Tightening torque is 25 Nm.
11. Install both caps.
12. Insert retaining spring into brake caliper housing. Important: Depress the brake pedal firmly several times while the car is stationary so that the brake pads adjust to their normal operating positions!!! Check brake fluid level and top up if neccessary!!!

Why do brakes go to floor but still have light pressure?


It sounds like you have air in your brake lines. This is usually caused by a very low brake fluid in the master cyclinder.
To fix this problem fill up the master cyclinder with brake fluid and bleed the front wheel brake cyclinders until the air bubbles are removed. Keep the master cyclinder topped up with brake fluid. Then bleed the rear wheel brake cyclinders until the air bubbles are removed. Don't forget to top up the brake fluid in the master cyclinder.

Peugeot 207 rear wheel brake cyclinder replacement


When replacing a Peugeot 207 rear wheel brake cylinder, the Workshop Manual recommends that once the drum has been removed, the brake pipe disconnected from the cyclinder, and the cylinder retaining bolt removed, the upper brake shoe return spring should be removed to allow the cyclinder to be withdrawn from its mounting position.

It is not neccessary to remove the upper brake shoe return spring (tricky to do and even more difficult to put back) - just raise the handbrake (emergency brake) lever a few clicks until the ends of the brake shoes are clear of the cylinder. The cylinder can then be manoeuvred over the upper return spring.

Brakes on rear passenger side it leaking brake fluid..what is the part call to get it fixed. my brother said it was the master cyclinder but now he believes it is like a brake wheel cyclinder


if you have drum brakes on the rear of the car and the leak is at the back of the car the part is called a wheel cylinder if the leak is coming from inside the brake drum.

Brakes wont work pedal goes to floor changed the master cyclinder bleed brakes and still have same problem 1990 ford aerostar van


What is the condition of both front calipers? both rear wheel cylinders? and the complete brake lines and hoses of your van? If they are all good with no traces of leakage, then did you bleed the Mastercylinder on the bench first before installing in the van? Did you gravity bleed the 4 wheels first? did you bleed from the farthest wheel first? Are you using a new Master and not a re-built??

I have a 91 s10 2wd 5spd with a 2.5 4cyl... i bought the truck with the brakes not working, it had a bad rear brakeline that was cracked right in front of the rear driver tire. and since this truck is...


the master cyclinder is divided into diagonal wheels. meaning that each line from the master cyclinder provides fluid to a front wheel and rear wheel. on the front resevoir of the master cyclinder it would be perhaps the left front and right rear brake for example. you need to block the lines going to the rear wheels independently and then bleed the brakes again starting with the wheel furthest from the master cyclinder.

Rear wheel cylinder, brake pads and master cyclinder replaced. Have attempted to bleed the brakes numerous time. One rear brake continues to **** air. What could be the problem?


either the flexible pipe is split or the nut on the pipe loose ,,but then it would leak ,or you havent bleed it properly,??? doubt it though?? leave vehicle overnight with a something heavy on brake pedal and see what happens

Focus rear brake cylinder


it is usually a 8mm spanner but thruogh time they corrode down have you got a pair of vise grips if you do use them to grab bolt & slacken that way would also advise to replace rear wheel cylinder bolts too.

Rear Wheel Cyclinder


Measure the old rear wheel cyclinder and it should find out if you have 9" or 10" cyclinders or you can take it to the auto parts store and they can match it for you.

No brake fluid going to drives side back brake


1. You could have air in the lines yet, but more specifically, I would need to know if you have anti-skid system in your car. Also, you may have a proporation valve in the system that has to be activitated before the system can be bled.

In bleeding, you start at the rear wheels first and then work to the front, doing the master cyclinder last.
Finally, the brake master cyclinder is designed so that the front part of the cylinder pumps fluid to only one front wheel and only one rear wheel. The rear part of the master cylinder only pumps fluid to the other 1 front and 1 rear. This is so that if you loose your brakes, you will always have a rear and front working.
