SOURCE: where is the starter located on a 2000 vw beetle

If your VW is a streight shift you can see it pretty good with the drivers side front wheel off. It looks like you could take the battery and battery housing out and get to it pretty good from the top. Good luck.

Heintermittent starter problems, 2000 beetle

There may be a dead spot in the starter. If it just clicks my recommendation is to replace the stater before it stops working all together. Good luck.

We just bought a 2000 VW beetle and it started 3 times. We brought it home and went to move it and now it WILL NOT start. It definitely is not the battery. We do hear a buzzing when we turn the key and...

It's entirely possible that it is the starter itself. You probably wouldn't hear any kind of noise from a bad starter. If it's at a shop and that's what they're telling you, I would believe it. The starter can easily be tested with a simple test light. It's only got 2 wires going to it, one large and one small. The large wire should have 12 volts all the time, the small one gets 12 volts when you try to start.
The starter is located more or less under the battery on the front side of the transmisision.
Best of luck;

Fuse number/location for air conditioning compressor 2000 beetle

View the attached website to see if your problem is in the fuse block that is under the hood immediately on top of the car's battery.

Also, the car's blower motor/climate control is controlled by the 25 amp fuse No. 25 in the fuse block located at the end of your dashboard.

Cruise control won;t turn on, also starter is going out. cost is a factor. anywhere you could suggest buying a rebuilt starter for a 2000 vw beetle 2.0 Liter w/auto transmission?

The lowest prices I usually find are online either with partsgeek or drivewire. For your car the lowest price I can find is a remanufactured at http://www.drivewire.com/vehicle/volkswagen-beetle/starter/

The other option you have is a parts yard, depending on your location...look under auto parts and junk yards in your phone book or only by your zipcode. You might find one that way, but remember that its used and doesnt have a warranty.

VW new Beetle

OK, it sounds like the battery is dead flat, or just dead. First thing to check is the voltage on the battery - if it is 12 to 13v it might just need recharging, but if it is a lot less it could be due for replacement.
You should be able to get it running by getting it jump started using cables from another car. When you get the engine running again check that no interior lights stay on after you close the door, and that no audio systems or other electrical items have been left on.

If the battery is more than three years old, it is probably just worn out, but if it is a lot newer, come back with more info and I will try to help you further.

I take it you have a "real" key to get you inside so you can open the hood / bonnet?

Hope this helps a bit to start with. D.
