2002 Mitsubishi montero sport blows cold air when idle - hot air when rpms up around 1500+ ... Started doing this 2 months ago - I would add antifreeze, it would work for 3 days then start doing it again - check antifreeze level, and it would be low - add antifreeze and it would work for 3 days then start doing it again - did that for about a month, then the radiator burst out the top seam - I replaced radiator - thermostat was stuck closed - replaced thermostat - filled antifreeze - antifreeze kept the level, but still no heat at idle - then started getting no heat at all - flushed the heater core and blue out the hoses and now I get heat at 1500+ rpms but no heat at idle - I have service engine soon light on and did diagnostic - it's the back oxygen sensor on the driver's side of the engine - I think they called it bank 2 sensor 1 - not sure on that but it's causing the engine to run lean - would this affect the heat situation? If not, any other ideas on what is causing my heater problem ... 133k miles

SOURCE: heater blowing cold air

squeeze the hoses to get any air bubbles out and refill coolant as necesary. are you sure you put thermostat in the right way? may be backwards. also may be your sensor.

SOURCE: 2002 dodge 1500 Changed radiator, thermostat, and hoses. No heat

Why was radiator replaced?Did it have heat before ? If it was plugged, the heater core may also be plugged. Try flushing it with a water hose in both directions. I dont know why the botton radiator hose would be cold, the radiator should be a uniform temp and the air coming through the radiator should be HOT, when the engine is at operating temp. What condition was the old coolant? if it was rusty, the water pump may have lower flow than normal.

Engine light on? Many things can cause this. Mass airflow sensor, throttle pos. sensor, cam sensor, idle control valve, O2 sensor, vacuum leak etc, diagnosis be great. Good luck

I have suction where i put oil in, when i remove the cap the car trys to stall what do I do? 2002 montero sport limited

You don't add oil with the car running

You broke the vacuum for the crankcase evacuation
(PCV System)

If you have idle problems then they have to be diagnosed

Make sure there is no air in the cooling system, and that the cooling fan is working, coming on,and going off on it`s own.if it is not ,replace the coolant sensor.

Mitsu Montero Sport '02 engine stalls but not when air cond is on.

hi there. the reason that the engine idles good when the air-con is engaged is that ussually all vehicles nowadays have a vacumm advance mechanism. this is triggered mainly by a electric solenoid valve which is also attached parallel to the source supplying power to compressor. a small vacumm hose with a diameter like a common pencil or ballpen case. its made of rubber and it runs from the alternator vacumm pump then to the solenoid valve and to the vacumm advancer unit attached to the injection pump throttle. this system raises the idle a tad higher.

if your montero runs completely normal and you experience no other problems with your engine except for your present problem, then the solution is just raising the idle a little higher. if your montero is equiped with a RPM guage on the dash, try adjusting the idle to around 800 rpms. it would be healthier for your car if the idle raises a bit when you engage the air-con because this would compensate for the added load on your engine.

hope this helps.

the engine compensates for the load try turning up the idle screw also check the ignition system you might just need new wires and or cap rotor or your coil is bad also plugs
