1990 Accord Lx 2.2 won't start. Cranks, but won't turn over
Battery is charged and appears the engine wants to turn over, but it won't. Not flooded as I did not pump the pedal too much. My son said the check engine light came on Sunday 01/18/09. He drove it home 10 miles where I did a good visual, secured all vacuum lines, check fluids, etc... After an hour, he had to drive the car on a 30 mile round-trip run. It ran rough, but never stalled. The check engine light never came back on. It was not started until today Friday 01/23/09 (sat there for 5 days). Now, is when it won't turn over and start. Any assistance is greatly appreciated!

I have had that problem with my 98 Dodge Ram 1500. It was the Crank Shaft Position sensor.. If you do it yourself make sure you disconnect the positive battery cable from battery for couple hours to let the computer drain any electricity it may store. So it can rest the computer. I didn't do that and couldn't figure out why it still wouldn't start. Until I asked a mechanic.

Hi, you have to have the battery connected while the engine is running as the alternator is sending a trickle charge back to the battery to keep it charged up. When the alternator does not find the battery then the circuit is broken as you disconnected the connection .
not sure what you said but. seems the battery is discharging,? 12.6v is fully charged, own a voltmeter? try a good loaned battery , does it start the car,? i think you meant? i can jumper cable start my car at any time. (off another running car) but after running my car, the battery discharges and it will not crank at all. right? this means ,the charging system on your car is bad. if the starter cranks great, then the engine is flooded or is in great need of a tune up (sparkplugs etc) if flooded try the super secret in the op guide, crank with throttle wide open , this magic trick cuts all fuel injection allowing the flooding to purge away, and eventual starting. my guess 2 is the car wont start, so you crank the battery flat you jumper start it and it runs. (luck) then day 2, same deal cranks ok but wont start.. ever tune up the engine?
Have your engine scoped out by a reputable service shop. Was it running better before you replaced those items? Have you done a tune up lately? Did you buy bad gas? Are your fuel injectors clean? Is the fuel pump going out on you? Are your spark plugs and spark plug wires good? Are their any sensors that may need replacing? I have a 1990 Honda Accord and the car just wants to keep taking my money. It needs too much love to keep any more. Terry
Im not clear on the stauts of the vehicle. Is it completley dead as if the battery does not work? Can you charge the battery or check to see if the battery is dead. If you have power going and the engine cranks but does not turn over it could be many things. It could simply be a fuse. Check your owners manual for location of your fuse box. Check all the fuses that goes to the starter, engine , fuel pump, anything that may correspond with electricity or starting the engine etc. Did the run , then stop working or did it do soemthing in between? I need a little more info.
1. Check your battery to make sure it is not rusted, leaking, and has a charge 2. Jump start your battery with another car, even if you believe the battery is good, this often times will still start your car. 3. If your engine is cold, and you have an older car, ensure to get your fuel lines to the engine flushed or have fuel injection service performed 4. The engine tends to warp the same way wood does during the extreme cold, do not be afraid to continue trying to warm up the engine by constant cranks with it is cold out. Your not going to hurt the car, the worse that could happen is too much fuel will enter the carborator and cause flooding in the system to occur. Wait 20 minutes if this happens and start to crank again 5. Bad spark plugs are a major reason why many cars take a very long time to start 6. Please have your spark plugs removed and exchanged for new ones. Over time, spark plugs become fowled and prevent the car from starting even thou you hear cranking!!!
No, you don't have to pull the engine. Many of those problems are fixed by removing the wheel, and the plastic inner fender. It's probably a crank seal, or a power steering hose. PS- You mean the passenger side... don't you?
