2001 ford excursion 4x4 troubleshooting

the transfer case shifter linkage may be loose or binding. Check the shift fork for signs of cracks or wear.
Damaged internal gears or viscous coupler prevent the transfer case from shifting into "4-low" or "4-high" drives.
and in evry 15000 miles need to change oil.

Can't see how to remove the viscous fan from my b.m.w 316i 1996 petrol engine i have tried putting a spanner on the crank shaft and then another on the back of the large nut of the viscous fan i need...

hi steven,

the fan clutch needs to be loosen in the clockwise direction. If it is frozen or difficult to remove, I recommend firmly hitting the end of your wrench with a hammer down and in the clockwise direction. Usually the impact will help the nut of the viscous fan break free. You may want to also spray some rust penetration oil on the nut before trying to remove the fan.

How do you add transmission fluid to a 2000 town country

The tranny fluid is added through the tranny dipstick (make sure it's not the oil dipstick). Fluid color should be red and the dipstick should have instructions on how to check level (car in park, engine at idle). Funnels are your friend here.

Overheats, and wont switch gears at times.

Well overheating and not starting are possibly 2 different issues. Oil is not the cause of overheating. Thermostat, water pump, electric fans and viscous fan are causes for overheating plus the sensors that control the fans. Not starting could be caused by the overheating but most likely its a fuel or ignition issue.

My talon wont shift into 2 nd or 4 th

congradulations you need an internal shatf replacement both 2nd and 4th gears run on the same shaft if your missing both then you need to replace the entire shaft assymbly either that or some one messed up your shift cable adjustments you can fix it cheaper just by putting in a salvage tranny sorry if ur close to tulsa, ok ive most likely got a trany for it but check ur shiuft cables first
