Question about 2001 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Open Question

I need a wiring diagram for a Mercedes e320 2001 regarding the cd changer

The cd changer will not eject the cassette and a replacement unit does the same thing. I don't know what voltages to look for in the power connector at each pin.

SOURCE: Cassette and Multiple CD Player are jammed

Hi,

If you hear a whirring sound followed by a click (or series of clicks) when trying to eject a cassette, then you probably have a broken tape which has wrapped itself tightly around the first spindle, thereby preventing the cassette bed from raising to the eject position.

That was the problem a few days ago with my father's Becker Audio 10 unit fitted in his E240.

You will need a set of removal tools (see photo 3), a flat bladed screwdriver, a small cross-head screwdriver, a scalpel (the latter's small sharp blade is needed to get into the confined space and cut away the offending tape) and, possibly, a small Torx driver.

1
Remove the unit from the car using the removal tools and disengage the antenna plug and the two electrical connector blocks (1 x single and 1 x double) from the rear of the unit.

2
Using the flat-bladed screwdriver, carefully prise the top cover away from the unit - I started at the back on either side and then slowly drew the screwdriver forwards until enough of the top cover had been raised to allow me to grasp it and pull it free.

3
Remove the small, black, cross-head screw (circled in red and marked 'C' on photo 1) nearest the front of the unit and then remove the plate it is securing by lifting and moving to right (to disengage it from the securing pin (indicated in red on photo 1).

4
Remove the small, black, cross head screw (also circled in red) towards the rear of the unit. It is now possible to remove the side fence by carefull manipulation, disengaging the lugs and pin indicated by the red arrows on photo 2. TAKE CARE NOT TO DAMAGE THE RIBBON CABLE indicated in blue on photo 2.

5
The broken tape wrapped around the spindle will now be visible (the approximate position is indicated by the blue disc with a white X on photo 1). Use the scalpel to carefully cut away the tape from the spindle - this could take several minutes depending upon the amount of tape and how tightly it has been wound.

If greater access is needed, remove the Torx screws (circled in red and marked 'T' on photo 1) to partially disengage the cassette sub-assembly. It will remain connected the the printed circuit board at the rear so care should be taken not to move it excessively.

Once the damaged tape has been cut away the eject mechanism should function normally once more.

Reverse the forentioned procedures, secure the top cover and re-install unit, remembering to have the code card handy!

I can't suggest any solution for the autochanger.

Best of luck,

JC

Hi, Joe here to help. The cd changer is at fault. You need to replace the changer. The system is on a fiber optic loop which cuts out the sound if can not complete that loop.

Do I have to program a second hand CD changer to my cl 500 I have tryed 3 changers in and its still not working comes up on the head unit no CD!thank you for your time regards trevor

sounds like the problem is that the head unit does not have the version coding set to show you have a cd changer installed in the vehicle. The second possibility is that the fiber optic ring in down which could give the same result. First you have to restart the fiber optic ring and then you have to check the version coding; You need to hook up a mercedes sds to the vehicle

How to remove cd from blocked cd changer

To remove a CD from a changer that does not respond to the eject button: Look to see if there is a tiny round hole near the eject button. It will be as small or smaller than the diameter of a paperclip. If you see it then that is the CD release. You will need to find a piece of very stiff wire that fits comfortably in that hole. After you insert the wire you will feel it land against something hard in maybe about 1/2 inch. Gently press the wire and hope that there is compression of the switch which will open the CD Changer.

If you have a magazine-type CD changer there may be a CD jammed in transit between the magazine and the player mechanism. Disassembly may be required to find and fix the problem.

CD Player will not eject the CD magazine

Disconnect Battery
  • As with any tasks on a Mercedes or other vehicle, when you are dealing with disconnecting and connecting electrical systems, you should always disconnect the negative battery terminal. This will ensure your safety and prevent you from getting an electric shock.

Dash Panel
  • Pry the dash panel from the dashboard. There are two levers on the sides of the Mercedes factory-installed CD changer. Pulling down on the levers will release the radio from the bracket in the dash. You will have to remove the wiring and the antenna cable from the back of the system.

Installation
  • You can replace it with a newer version of a CD changer or insert the same one, once it has been repaired. Slide the player into the installation sleeve of the stereo dock. Pay attention to where the wires were removed and connect the unit's wiring to the leads in the wiring harness adapter. Connect the antenna cable lead into the antenna detector. Snap on the dash panel to complete the removal and installation.

How do I remove and replace the radio in a 1993 Mercedes Benz 300SE? I want to replace the radio unit with a unit containing CD player.

First thing is to understand you will most likely have to run all new speaker wire as the head unit in your car has everything external to the head unit (power amplifier, fader). The plastic around shifter pulls up off, then remove wood surround. Remove ashtray, pull face off head unit usually by sticking fingers in cassette area and pull. There will be plastic tabs on the bottom of unit push in and pull out on head unit, pull slowly so you can inspect wires for placement. Again rerunning speaker wire should be done to preclude external amps and fader switch and power antenna if yours still works.

Radio works ok. Cassette ejects tape, won't play. Cd skips/hesitates but plays. Panasonic 6 disc changer(factory installed) will not recognize cds. It gets err 1 msg. Would replacing the battery cause...

No, replacing the battery is not your problem. Must be pure coincidence..
Tape is ejecting because the deck is faulty. Either a broken belt or a broken plastic gear assembly. CD players in this model were made by SONY and are troublesome. Rather than trying to get someone to fix it, go to your local salvage yard and see what they have. They are for sale on ebay also. They are basically "throw-away" units as SONY struck a deal with GM and GM can't supply replacement parts. PLUS... there aren't too mnay shops around that fix these units.
