Cranks but wont start

The car had been sitting for a while. I bought it from a police auction, it was impounded for auto theft so it has a busted up steering column. It started at first ran till i turned it off, now it just cranks acts like it wants to start but wont.

Wiring is probably shot in it,buy a used column from a junk yard,they are around $75.00

it sounds like either the key is going bad (chip inside) or the PAT's immobilizer system is not detecting a key is inserted with the correct code. If you remove the column surround you will see connectors just make sure all of these are secure, watch the yellow one do not disconnect it as its the airbag and theres a chance of it deploying.
Also try your spare ignition key if you have one.

If all is ok i'm afraid you may need to make a trip to ford for them to diagnose, the pat's system works well almost too well sometimes. i deal alot with them while installing remote starts and when they go wrong its almost always the dealer to resolve it. They have the computer software to test the system.

temporary solution is to put the key in the ignition and tap on the end that attaches to the ring vdery gently with something like a pocket knife. this allows the pin to fall into place and work better. try to keep the key in an unbound... not against either the clockwise limit or counterclockwise limit.... as you are tapping. if this works, lubricate the lock and get it to a locksmith before it quits working all together and the lock needs to be drilled

Sometimes if it set too long the gas went bad. You may have to drain the gas and the put fresh gas in.

The first years of that body shape, like the 93 Grand Cherokee, had ecu computer problems. Next time it won't start, check to see if the check engine light does lights up on the dash, when you turn the ignition on, before cranking. If it does not, the fuel pump will not kick on, until that check engine light does come on. It's referred to as the delayed check engine light problem, on early to mid 90's Jeeps. If you find out that is indeed the problem, you can have the ecu computer repaired.

It might be your anti-theft alarm system. When the car doesn't start, is there a ticking sound inside the car? If so, hit the unlock button a few times on your keyless entry remote, until the ticking stops, then try to start the car. Hopefully this helps.

All the fuse wires r all out of place

To make it easier on yourself is to buy a new wiring harness. Or better yet...get the appropriate ones from a junkyard car. you can get them from a 90,91,92,or a 93 They were all the same during those years. Im not quite sure where you got that car. But im willing to bet its from an Auto-Auction or police impound car. they tear stuff when they search vehicles and better off replacing parts unless you really have a know-how about car's electrical. In most cases the wires are in bundles. Those bundles dont have any repeat colors in them. So if you can figure out what wires go in what bundles. then you can figure out what splices need what. If you get the whole deal from a would have less hassle..and put the next owner (maybe you) in a safer car. You dont want to risk putting a 5 amp wire into a 20 amp fuse. when it overloads you risk having an electrical fire in the car.
