SOURCE: throttle/Idle/running problem - wants to run too fast, or stall out

yes he is correct also check for any vacum leaks into the intake this will cause the o2 sensors to tell the obc (computer) to compensate for the extra air entering the system and cause the engine to lean the fuel out that will cause a obd2 code saying the o2 sensor needs to be replaced when it is only a vacum leak

SOURCE: 2002 grand prix runs rough, dies service engine

sounds like you have a vacuum leak, check all the vacuum hoses and replace any broken or kinked ones, also check around the intake manifold gasket for leaks. any air leaks after the air flow meter creates 'un-metered' air which inturn will make the car run rough and stall, hope this helps

SOURCE: 1999 pontiac grand prix . will not run

If wiggling the wires cured the code, then one of the wires is broken inside the insulation. Pull on each wire one at a time. look for the colored insulation to stretch, this will be the broken wire. For the other car that wont rev up, this is a common when the catalytic concverter is plugged up. This will also cause MAF codes, and in turn, TRAC OFF light.

SOURCE: 1993 pontiac grand prix 3.1 liter

the 3.1 had some EGR problems, EGR valve stuck open, blown diaphrams, Plugged passages Im not saying that is all your problems and I believe yours has whats called a linear EGR about $350.00 from the dealer (and that is the only place you ever consider buying such a critical part for the emissions system regardless of the cost)
That car is so antiquated as far as computers go that relying on the codes is nearly pointless! Map code can set because of low engine vacuum which you will have with a poor running engine, Check for 5 volt reference voltage at the TPS and MAP with the key on and engine off if no 5 volt reference I suspect a Computer. Computer Ground is on the Thermostat housing and needs to be clean and secure.
There is a legit test in the GM factory manual called the TAP TEST take the ECM (computer) and slap it with an open hand, if the symptoms change the ECM is bad it's very common in the early-mid 90s for the computers to go bad in one way or another the circuit boards come loose and suffer also from cold solder joints.
Make sure the wires are on the correct plugs and hopefuly you used factory plugs and wires and No split fire or bosch plugs only AC delco
Make sure you have good spark on all 6 cylinders.

My 2008 trailblazer is acting like it wants to die when it is idling. When I am driving its rpms run high and it starts spuddering.

Sounds like the TPS(Throttle Positioning Sensor) or the IAC(Idle Air Control) is malfunctioning. Sometimes these sensors malfunction because of a dirty throttle body. You should clean the throttle body out with throttle body cleaner first. After cleaning the throttle body out, start the vehicle. It will be slow starting and when it does start it will run rough but after a minute or two it will settle down. You will need to clear the trouble codes. Most major auto parts stores will do this for little or no charge. After clearing the trouble codes drive the vehicle. If the vehicle runs properly, no more is needed. If the vehicle still runs the same as before then continue to drive vehicle until the engine light comes back on. Read the codes and replace the defective sensor.

Why my grand prix will start, but won't continue to idle?

if the check engine light is not on as it idles more than likely the cause is one of 3 things ,a vacuum leak this will cause higher idle speeds and loss of idle, the Idle air control sensor or switch stuck or not functioning this will cause no idle but if you depress the gas pedal slightly the car will run and idle as long as your foot is on the gas, last possibility is air inlet leaks these cars mostly came with mass airflow sensors if the tube that connects this sensor to the throttle body is leaking or broken it will cause the problem your explaining however this is the rarest of the 3 causes

2007 Grand Prix GXP. I pull up to a stop light and the engine stops running. I put it in neutral and it starts right up. Any ideas?

Hi, check first for vacuum leaks. If that's good, suspect the idle air control valve. Make sure to test things before replacing. If you suspect a certain component, please get back to me for test procedures before buying parts.

Please see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r7427423-fix_poor_idle_high_idle_stalling_fuel . These are generic instructions. If you get stuck or need specific instructions for your car, please get back to me with model, year and engine info.

2004 Grand Pix starting running rough all of the sudden. I tuned it up and replaced the engnition module and it still running rough any suggestions?

Electronic Engine Controls WARNING
To avoid personal injury and/or vehicle damage, refer to the service precautions at the beginning of this section.
General Information The Engine Management System (EMS) uses several different sensors and actuators to gather and control various emissions and driveability aspects of the vehicle. These may include but are not limited to:
  • MAP - Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor
  • BARO - Barometric Pressure Sensor
  • FTP - Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor
  • ECT - Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor
  • A/F - Air Fuel Ratio Sensor
  • APP - Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor
  • CKP - Crankshaft Position Sensor
  • CMP - Camshaft Position Sensor
  • EGR Valve Position - Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve Position Sensor
  • HO 2S - Heated Oxygen Sensor
  • IAC - Idle Air Control Valve
  • IAT - Intake Air Temperature Sensor
  • KS - Knock Sensor
  • MAF - Mass Air Flow Sensor
  • TP - Throttle Position Sensor
---
Are there any codes that point to a problem with any of the above sensors?

Throttle/Idle/running problem - wants to run too fast, or stall out

RPM's up and down check EGR valve and sensor. EGR valve and sensor control idle. That's why your getting the surging on rpm's and this could be giving out the other codes. If mass flow was bad car will not start and the same for the map sensor. O2 sensor measures gas and air for right mixer. TPS controls 0-60 speed as in throttle respons.
