Oil pan bolt torque

oil pan bolts are torqued in inch lbs due to their size and usually doesn't require a specific torque value. all bolts in a manual does show torque settings in all applications. However because of its non critical application a specific value is not necessary. a "snug" tightness is adequate with proper gasket/sealer in place to prevent seepage or leaks. in that area of the engine, leak can come from almost anywhere. top, front,or even rear of the engine blown by the wind a car creates while in motion. oil sensors{ but not limited to} are notorious for leaks as the vehicle ages particularly in that area. steam clean or thoroughly degrease the area and run the engine a few miles and recheck the area before proceeding to make repairs.

Check engine and trans light are on a 2001 Isuzu trooper 2 X 4, I took it to auto zone the diagnostic check showed loose band on transmission I know that I need a torque wrench to adjust I need to know...

The band adjustment in not a torque adjustment. Drop the main pan on the transmission. You will see the valve body with filter on it. At the rear drivers side you will see a round dome piece with a flat flange with four bolts in it. Remove the bolts and take this cover off. Now you will see a round piston with an adjustment screw in it. Break the jam nut loose and tighten the allen bolt in until tight. Back off five complete turns and reset jam nut. When you have the pan off, take note of how much clutch material is in it. If you have a lot it could be time to replace the clutches. Also it is a good idea to put in a new filter if you are in there. Good luck

2001 chevy venture

Get new fluid, pan gasket and filter.

Put vehicle on ramps.

Starting at one corner, use ratchet to loosen and remove bolts from pan. Be sure to have a drain pan directly under the corner that drops to allow fluid to be collected. Do not remove any bolt before loosening all the bolts first, and slowly work from the same corner. You do not want to bend the flange on the pan.

Drop pan out of the way, remove/clean away old gasket, clean up pan, and pan bolts, apply light coating of gasket sealer to flange and apply new gasket.

Remove and replace filter. Check pan mating surfaces on tranny and make sure they are clean.

Reinstall pan into place by starting all bolts before tightening. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN BOLTS OR THE PAN WILL LEAK! Rotate around the pan, tightening each bolt slightly to no more than about 10 ft ponds of torque. A 1/4 inch ratchet is best used for this procedure.

Refill tranny with the amount of fluid removed into the drain pan.

This procedure will not replace any fluid in the torque converter, and generally most vehicles have no way of changing the torque converter fluid.
