EGR, TPS, or IAC, but it may be an intake manifold gasket getting bad, that is providing you have good plugs and wires. You didnt include enough info for a proper diagnosis

97 chevy 1500 sputters at idle in gear can feel it a little while driving no cat. past 2 years run bank1 lean code plugs clean HELP

If the engine is misfiring the check engine light would be on and blinking and the engine control module (PCM) would store a fault code or codes for the cylinders that are misfiring. A lean code will not cause a misfire unless the engine has a vacuum leak most often at the intake manifold gaskets. A misfire code looks like this:

P0300-P0306 for 6 cylinder and P0300-P0308 for a V8.
P0300 indicated a random engine misfire, this can be caused by all kinds of issues.

I have a 2004 jeep Cherokee 4.0L cars sputters at 2000 Rpms changed the spark plugs and ignition coil and also fuel filter also changed battery and alternator still has the same problem I'm stumped

If check engine or service engine light is on get the codes read. There are numerous things it could be. Randomly throwing parts at it probably won't fix it and just waste time and money.

Misfires when cold

Just means it isn't warmed up yet when sputters and misfires. Most likely a bad connection on the temperature sending unit in the engine or that sending unit is faulty. This sending unit tells the computer when engine is warm or cold and has to be functional. When working properly, it tells the computer to put engine in cold start mode, which it is not doing. The sensor is stuck in open position or warm mode and not giving the engine enough fuel when cold making it misfire and sputter. Fix that and you'll have no other problems with revving either.

1995 geo tracker sputters and stalls and wont idle

need more input. (8valve or 16valve engine , which option?)
black top engine , or silver 16)?
does it fail, cold or hot engine or both?
does it have full power from engine , at all speeds and loads (hills)?
and wide open throttle power.?
ever do the 60k tune up, not just a fuel filter?
http://www.fixkick.com/IGN_timing/tune-ups.html

how old is the fuel?
the pump/reg holds 34-43 psi.at all times...running.
sputter, from too low RPM ? below 800
or idle fast, but sputters at 800 and more?
if the latter, that is called misfire.
if the former that is lost of idle controls.
need to now which engine. because the are worlds apart.
EFI wise !

but here is a page on misfire. "sputter"
50 reaons and more causes.
we dont guess, we do about 5 tests and bingo....

when was the last time it ran good,?

I have a 97 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 and it recently started to shake and sputter when running around 1500 but if I hammer on the gas it takes a second and then takes off any solutions?

There are MANY things that can cause an engine to "shake and sputter".
Shake and sputter in the auto repair world is called "cylinder misfire". There is not enough room on this page to list all the different things that can cause a cylinder misfire. Diagnosing a misfire can take several different turns depending on things like how many cylinders are misfiring, at what engine RPM(S) is(are) the misfire(S) occuring, what engine temperatures, vehicle speeds, etc. etc. etc.. Certain possible causes can either be verified or eliminated due to the answers to these questions.

The first thing to do is to scan your engine control computer to see if there are any stored Diagnostic Test Codes (DTCs - commonly reffered to as "fault codes"). This can have a HUGE influence on which turn to take. It is kind-of like when your thumb is smashed to pieces and turning black, you know when you check the data that your pain was not caused by a razor blade...it was the hammer that did it. If you do not look at the data, all you know is that your thumb hurts.
