It could be the neutral safety switch which prevents you from cranking the engine in gear.
But it could also be the anti-theft system. The system reads the chip in the key to allow the starter to crank the engine.
Is the security light staying on ?

I had the same problem on my '96 cadillac seville. You need a new ignition cylinder lock (what your key goes into) because there is a wire inside of there that is broken that reads the chip on your key. Your key should be fine if this is true, the faulty ignition switch just isn't reading it.

SOURCE: 92 cadillac deville that will not start.

It sounds like your batery is empty.
Or maybe your start rotor is a bit stuck.
if so give it a hit with a rubber hammer that can help loosen it.

Same that happened to me. There is a detailed write-up here: http://vatspasskey.com . The guy is great, this was the only way I was able to save my Park Avenue. I see it applies to your model too.

Car starts when cold, car starts when warm except starter will not stop trying to engage. replaced starter and still happening 2003

your ignition switch is sticking, and continues to try and send power to the starting system, or,, check the starter relay for a short , you can usually switch relays in the under the hood fuse box, if they are the same size,, so flip a couple of them around, ( so the starter one is good) and try starting the car and see if you get the same results, if so, it's your ignition, if the problem seems to be better, change that replay that was in the starter relay position to begin with .

I turn ignition key it flickers but wont start but baterry is good it has enough power

If the battery is charged up and reading 13.5 volts, it should crank. If it reads below 12.5, it won't. The terminals are needing a good cleaning, all the contacts on the battery have to be clean, wire brush. The electrolyte in the battery should be checked. If still no crank, check the big wire to the starter, It has too be clean too. If all else fails, take the starter to the parts store and get it checked. Could be at fault. Hope this helps.

I need the wiring oder for spark plugs for a 1970 cadellac deville a diagram of my distributor would help

According to my Chilton book this is same for either engine. The firing order is 1-5-6-3-4-2-7-8. Standing at the front of the car looking at the engine #1 piston is at 9 o'clock on the distributor and it turns clockwise. The hold down screws for the cap should be at 12 and 6 o'clock nd the window to set dwell should be at 9. The odd number pistons are on the passenger side starting from the rad and the even numbers on the driver's side from the rad. Hope this helps.

Doesn't start- Thought starter was bad replaced and still nothing -won't turn over?Battery Good Checked all fuses and starter that was replaced is good! Turn ignition key and nothing? Selinoid not even...

The ignition switch attached to the column is probally bad, check the small wire to the sloenoid for battery when the key is turned to the start postion, if no battery, your not getting power from the ignition switch to the starter solenoid.

92 cadillac deville 4.9L starting problems

There should be a wire that runs from the ignition to the solenoid, check that the wire has power when you turn the ignition key, if it has power the solenoid may need replacing.
Check to see if you have power getting to the distributor and the spark plugs, if you have spark it is possibly in the fuel system
