Sounds like vacuum leak or maybe Idle Air Control Valve. Only cuts out at low rpm only?

SOURCE: transmission will not go into

There is a wiring harness connector at the firewall that serves the transmission from the computer. Check that this connection has not lost its mounting bolt(s). If the connection separates, the trans will not recieve info from the computer and will not operate.

SOURCE: its hard to steer the vehicle when going slow

straight from Haynes manual:1 - worn ball joints, tierod ends and steering gear assembly
2 - front wheel alignment incorrect
3 - tire pressure low
Check for fluid in th power steering reservoir, if you hear a squealing or whining sound it may only be out of fluid. is there a drive belt missing, check for that too!

SOURCE: car will not shift out of park and yes the brake is being pressed

Shifter assemblies are a common problem with these vehicles (floor shift models). An audible click should be heard in the shifter area when the brake pedal is depressed (if not, you may have an electrical issue in the btsi curcuit, see a qualified repair facility). Hope this helps you, good luck

SOURCE: idling speed too low

Sounds like a possible vacuum leak, check to make sure all hose are connected and serviceable. Make sure your intake hoses/pipes are secured and fastened from the filter on to the throttle body. Also you can use a screwdriver to slowly turn the idle adjuster screw at the throttle body. This will Raise the idle of your vehicle. However only if all else fails.

Car stalls when moving from neutral to drive or reverse

Hi Angela

Increase the idle speed slightly.
If there is no manual idle speed adjustment screw, then it electronically controlled by an idle valve which could be faulty or may be needs to be cleaned only.
All the best

1983 Buick LeSabre Wagon, cuts out driving down the road

Find the EGR valve on the intake and locate the vacuum hose that is connected to it. Start the engine cold and as it warms up, pull the hose off and if it idles and drives fine, the EGR valve is bad and needs to be replaced. Please rate me on this answer.

Check engine light and it is slow in speeding up. Please help

I have the same problem. ALTHOUGH this will not Solve your problem, it will make things easier. It is apparently a transmission sensor error. It ONLY comes on when you try to go in reverse. I have been driving my car for 4 months now and I don't go in reverse anymore and the problem stopped. of course its hard, I only park in places I can pull out of, or park uphill so I can neutral backwards. Its a hassle but hey I'm a student with no money to fix this ****.

Also, When the light goes on, if you put the car in drive, it usually gets stuck in one gear and cant shift properly. making your engine sound weird. to fix this, you have to find a spot that's uphill. Park on an incline where the front of your car is pointing up. turn off the engine, turn it back on again and it should shift fine now. the engine light will go away in like a day or two after this. and wont come back on unless you go in reverse.

p.s. If you ever feel the need to go in reverse, you should probably put the car in neutral and try pushing it first to see if that works.
