I'm not a mechanic, but could I actually replace the battery myself? Is it that difficult

Copied and pasted from Answers. Leo Nard post: You need to pull the driver seat as well as the subframe that holds the seat before you can get to the old battery. Pretty obvious Porsche wants you to take it to one of their dealers, since the also made this whole operation more difficult by using bolts that have a proprietary 16 point star head. I used an 8mm Allen wrench, but still stripped one of the bolts. Some Cayennes also have a second battery that is mounted in the back by the spare tire. I have had nummerous problem with my Cayenne and wish I had never bought it, this battery situation is just another example of why this is a terrible car to own. Again- I have not had the pleasure of doing this repair but hope this helps.

Sorry, Leo Nards post ends at "car to own". Rest of comment is mine.

thanks for the feedback....I'm trying to get a mechanic with knowledge that is capable of installing the battery...I too agree that this 6 cylinder 2005 Cayene is a disappointment in the end. It looks great and is well appointed, but is way under-powered compared to my other 2005 BMW X5 which is totally responsive and a better vehicle...Porsche did itself a dis-service by rolling this car out with such a weak engine for the weight of the vehicle...I will buy another BMW next time around....

Under the driver's seat runs all accessories. The 2005 may also have a second one in the rear under the cargo area that is used for starting.

If you need to disconnect the battery, then all you have to do is remove the plastic cover on the floor in front of the driver's seat near the transmission well.
The negative cable is there, and you can undo it to disconnect the battery. This saves taking out the 2 M10 triple square bolts.

Locked keys in trunk. Triple A unlocked car, and the alam went off. The interior latch will not open the trunk. How do I get the trunk open?

Sometimes a drop in battery voltage may cause this. I would assume this is a Cayene. Let me know if this is another model.

You would need to retrieve the car keys or the extra one for this.

You need then to unlock the driver's door with the ky. Switch on the ignition to prevent the alarm from going off. On the instrument display, check the 'tailgate' function is activated (Check also 'tailgate' chapter on your manual on p119). If not have it activated and you should be able to open it using the central lock.

The car wont start. it blinks a lot of lights makes clicking

I had these problems on my 2005 911 when the battery died. Apparently when it goes IT GOES. I had no problem with the battery until this time and then suddenly it was dead.

I've heard since that this is common on Porsche 996 when the battery is dead and then is should also be the case with the 986 Boxter.

I removed the old battery and left the car without a battery for at least 30 minutes (while doing some other maintainance). Put a new battery in and no problems after that. On most cars if you disconnect the battery for like 15 minutes the maintainance computer resets its self and all warninglights should dissapear unless there is a real fault, then the appropriate light should come back on!

Good luck.
Slick.
