Just went back and read you have replaced starter and solenoid already, and the ignition switch. Keep after it, and hope you find it.

Could be a ground problem, too. Check battery ground, engine to frame ground, engine and computer harness ground.

I'm back, Gary-like that commercial on tv where mechanics chase cars down the road on creepers! You have a failing connection somewhere. If you rock it and it works, don't sound like a relay-don't sound like the neutral safety switch-it really sounds like a failing starter or starter solenoid. To check, wait till it won't start, then check for power at solenoid wire when key is held in crank. If power then, suspect a bad starter or solenoid-have tested. If no power, try a new relay-starter relay. Another relay in your car may be same as the starter relay (same part number) so try swapping a different relay. Again, doesn't sound like relay, but you never know until tested. Good luck.

SOURCE: Mazda 626 timing

If the timing was 180 out it wouldn't run at all.
Do a compression test to make sure all the cylinders are in good condition, go back over your timing and make sure you aren't overlooking something like two plug leads swapped?, it sounds like it's only firing on two.

Have you tried moving shifter slowly through all gears, especially neutral when trying to start ? Sometimes safety neutral switch will become faulty & some movement of shifter may make it turn over.

2001 mazda 626 intermittent starting problem. Help!

Five areas to check for this. The ignition switch, the neutral safety switch, the relay and fuse, the starter and wiring. Next time it happens, hit the starter with something hard(hammer, steel rod, prybar), If it starts, replace the starter. If you hear a click when trying to start, it is the starter. I still hit it to make sure. Sometimes it could be a low voltage/wire problem.

I have a 1997 Mazada 626. It only starts when it wants to and when I take it to the mechanic he lifts the hood and says well it is started now when it does not start have it towed here and I will see...

I think he is right.Try to start it once and if it doesn't,give him a call so he can come have a look at it.Problems like that are not easy to find especially if the car is running fine when you look for the fault. Does it ever cut off when you are driving or it only happens when you switch off the engine and try to start? Godfrey

2000 626 2.0 manual trans. what is the difference in a engine that has a auto trans and one that has a manual trans. looking to replace my engine with manual trans but most are for automatic trans and some...

There are many differences, starting with your wiring harness, ecu computer, and it goes on from there.
Manual: There are a set # of gears (usually 4-6) and you switch between them as required.
Automatic: Again a set # of gears (usually 3-5), the transmission switches them automatically, based on current speed and other variables
For an manual you'll need to hook up a tachometer which cues you when the best time to shift is.

1993 mazda 626: could not get trans out of park!

Ignition lock is activated: You over rode it but still have original problem. Alarm system might be confused. SO....

1 disconnect battery negative (-) cable(make you have radio code if any) to reactivate radio, which works anyway if code was never set.

2 press brake peddle for 5 seconds

3 reconnect negative cable to battery.

use key and twist diver door lock to OPEN (this resets alarm which might have caused ignition lock module to activate.

You should be able to turn on the ignition, start the engine and shift out of park. Hope this helps.
