Glad you got it figured out. I though it was a timing chain issue. Cheers from Nova Scotia

Sounds to me from the brief description like you have either a water pump rattling, or a timing chain coming slack. Is the noise coming from the alternator? Never grease pulleys, ever. also the stop squeak spray is bad for your belts. Don't know why they even sell it. If you listen carefully you may be able to pin point the rattle. Is this a tick tick tick, or a rattle rattle rattle? Does sound like a water pump rattle or timing chain slap though. Hope this helps

Yes, the harmonic balancer is broken. It is what the crank pulley is bolted to.

What could cause my ford taurus 03 to cause such a loud squeeling noise?

it maybe the synchroniser which is under the throttle body (and houses the cam sensor)and makes the same noise. use a rubber hose to pimpoint the location of the noise

When i start my 2006 chevy silverado its making a squeking noise it sounds like its coming from the belt pullys but im not sure what else could it be

Check the belt tensioner they squeal when they fail due to constant spring pressure on the pulley> if you replace it I would suggest replaceing the belt unless it is new, check the alternator bearings ( spin it by hand with the belt off> they are known to fail)finally clean all pully and make sure the belt is perfectly clean and nothing on it before installing it. NOTE:Never get any grease on a serp belt it will make noise.

My serpentine belt has fallen off my 1991 chrysler lebaron 6cyl a number of times with no cause that is obvious to me. Any suggestions on how I prevent this in the future?

Most likely the belt tensioner but very common for the belt to be mis-routed even when it looks right. Back side idler, if applicable, also could be the culprit. Like other posted reply, check the belt tension with finger or thumb as well.

My 1998 Caravan has a bad squeek in the belt system. Have replaced tensioner pully twice, replaced idler pully and bearings, replaced cerpentine belt twice, replaced alternator twice, went back to...

Without the belt do all the pulleys turn easy. Power steering, water pump, alternator, and tensioner pulley. There is probably only one way the belt will stay on but make sure you have the smooth side to the smooth pulley and the grooved side to the grooved pulleys. See if any of the pulleys have and wiggle in them.

2004 gmc envoy. has a 6cyl and a serp belt. the center pully off set to the left (i think its a water pump) has a bad wobble and making a horrible noise. Not over heating and no leaks. should i just change...

If the fan is attached to it than it is the water pump making the noise and it will need to be replaced. If the fan clutch is not attached to it than it is either the idler pulley or the tensioner pulley. The tensioner is on the passenger side (left) of the front of the motor.

check to make sure the belt is on the crank pully as its the crank pully that turns the belt, the crank pully is the pully at the bottom of the engine normaly the biggest

Squealing all the time someone said serpentine belt. just had fan belt replaced. is it a pulley that only chevy dealer can diagnoze?

you could have a bad bearing in the various items that have the pulleys. Turn the car on and let it idle and try to listen to see which one is making the noise. Dont get too close.

1994 Camaro making a noise

Yes, it could also be the tensioner or idler pully making the noise. I would remove the belt and try to turn each pully by hand and at the same time try to move side to side to locate this.

Rattle noise from tensioner and pullys aera when engine is idiling and warm

Take a candle and rub all belts, do NOT get your hands stuck between the belts BE CAREFULL or use silicone spray. Try this first, sometimes the belts dry out and make noise, other wise the idler pully bearing is at fault.
