Question about 2002 Chevrolet Malibu
Only in alot of raining weather and on highway does this happen .chek engine light comes on and wont go off. this happen several years ago and found that a trick to reset but cant remember it .turn off car then pump brakes so many times and then hold ,when you start car ,light is gone .
Sounds like voodoo, honestly look for something chaffing/rubbing the brake pedal, check engine light and brakes are not related on this model, but underdash harness and cluster and pedal could be the issue

what codes were there stored????? do you remeber???? autozone only gives you the basics on the codes i can get in depth on these

If the engine light is on, a code scanner needs to be connected to it to find out why the light is on. It could be one of the sensors causing it. Take to autozone or advanced auto if there is one near you, if not call a repair shop that can do it. Autozone and advanced don't charge. Takes about 30 seconds.

SOURCE: Engine will die
There is a Communication problem between the Transmission Control Module (TCM) and the Engine control module. That is the bad news and is why it's shutting down the engine.
The good news is i believe there is a TSB recall on the 2004 - 2007 chevy aveo for the P0700 problem so it should be covered under warranty.
Believe the TSB# 05-06-01-030D
Good luck and hope this helps and hope it's not a bad ECM. Check the wire harness to the ECM and TCM, look for broken wire or the harness it self gone apart.

go to autoparts store and use their scanner to scan the computer and get the code. you may have to wait until you can catch it back on again. You can try resetting the computer by disconnecting battery for 30 minutes and see if that works first
