The fuel pump relay is controlled by the PCM which uses the gray and black wires all the way back through the chaissis to the fuel pump. With the key on and no pressure at the rail the pump should be running. If there is no power out of the PCM (Power Train Control Module) to the fuel pump relay the fuel pump will not work

12 volts. there is a relay that supplies 12 volts to the pump when closed. this relay is in the power distribution box.

I have a 1998 Chevy 1500 5.7 350 that has no pressure in the fuel line . I've replaced fuel pump and fuel filter and all fuses and relay is good ! I can push the pressure release valve on the intake for...


Check and make sure the grounf connection at the tank is clean and getting a good ground. Check this by hooking test light to pos. batt. and touching ground at tank. You want to check the engine to frame ground as well. Also you may need to run a ground wire from the frame to the tank . Hope this helps, please post solved on fixya.com. This is an air pump code, the pump more than likely has failed. If you are not familar with relays, electrionics, mechanics I suggest bring it to local Technician to test/repair

If you are confident to try this on your own, this is what will be required to do. You will need wiring diagram : First try replacing the air pump relay (relay 2) in the Battery Junction Box (BJB). And check that fuse 4 & 9 are both good. If both are ok you will need to remove the air pump relay - With Key On Engine Off, check for battery voltage (B+) to be present at terminal 30 from fuse 4 of the BJB. Check terminal 86 to be B+ from fuse 9 of the BJB, through the power hold relay. Gain access to the bottom of the BJB and check for B+ on the black with green stripe wire for terminal 85 of the air pump relay. If voltage is present, ground wire to check for relay activation and air pump to run, repair circuit to air pump as needed. If pump runs, backprobe the Black/Green wire at terminal 17 of connector C175B of the Powertrain Control Module . Jump terminal to ground to check for air pump operation. If pump runs, check for bad connection in connector or replace faulty PCM as required

There would be a fuel pump fuse, either under dash or under hood. Check that fuse, use the test light to see if fuse has power. If not, then it might be a fusible link or maxi-fuse that feeds the fuse panel. If fuse has power with key on, pull the relay, and use the test light and probe relay terminals, key off. One terminal should be hot at all times. If not, check for power loss between battery and relay terminal-possibly a maxi-fuse or fuse link.
If relay does have power to terminal, quickly check other terminals while someone turns key to on-for about 2 seconds, another terminal should show power-this would be signal from computer to turn the relay on to prime the lines and fuel rail. If you have that, plug relay in and cycle key. Does relay click? If yes, relay is working and problem may be at fuel pump connector. If relay is not working, but you have power to it, and the short signal from computer is there, then check the relay's coil side ground. Computer signals the coil side and the signal goes to ground from relay coil side.
Pull the relay and use a jumper wire from relay's hot terminal to fuel pump terminal-the wire to pump from the relay. If pump comes on, the problem is right there at the relay-either no signal from computer or the relay coil's ground is lost. If pump does not come on, again check connector at pump-that or the wire to pump[ has a problem.

What does tP0411 Secondary Air Injection System Incorrect Flow DetectedWhat does that mean? Secondary Air Injection is an emission control that uses an air pump (either electric or turned by the drive belt) to move fresh air into the exhausticon1.png manifold(s) or exhaust ports when the engine is in open loop and pre-catalytic converter when in closed loop. This reduces hydrocarbon emissions (HC), Carbon Monoxide (CO), and oxides of Nitrogen (NOx). This fresh air helps convert Carbon Monoxide (CO) into Carbon Dioxide (CO2) and Hydrocarbons (HC) into water vapor (H20).
A check valve is located in the air supply line to keep exhaust gasses from flowing into the pump. A cutoff valve that controls the airflow may be vacuum controlled or electrically controlled. When the powertrain control module (PCM) activates the valve, vacuum travels to the cutoff valve to open it and allow fresh air to flow. Some systems may have only a check valve and the flow may be regulated by a electromagnetic clutch on the air pump (similar to an A/C clutch).
Under hard acceleration, the air pump will be deactivated to prevent backfiring in the exhaust. To self-check, the AIR system will be activated by the PCM and fresh air would be routed into the exhaust system. The oxygen sensors would sense this fresh air as a lean condition and the short term fuelicon1.png trims would begin to move in the positive direction to compensate. The PCM expects to see this happen within just a few seconds during the self test. If it does not see the short term fuel trims rise, then the PCM interprets this as a malfunction in the AIR system and a code will be recorded.

Step 2:

Symptoms Symptoms of a P0411 DTC may include:
  • MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) illumination
  • Backfiring in the exhaust under hard acceleration
  • Engineicon1.png running rich (This is counter-intuitive. See explanation below)
  • Squealing belt
Causes Potential causes of a P0411 code include:
  • Damaged or missing check valve
  • AIR pump intake port plugged/damaged
  • AIR pump clutch malfunction
  • Holes or damage to exhaust components

Step 3:

Possible Solutions If you have access to a scan tool, with KOEO (Key on engine off) command the AIR pump on. It should activate. If it doesn't, remove and inspect the AIR pump relay for discoloration/melting due to heat. Repair as necessary.
With the ignition on (engine off) check for battery voltage at the switched battery feed to the relay and the relay control circuit. If either of these isn't present, inspect circuit for blown fuse or open/short in the wiring. Repair cause of short and retest. If they are both present, jumper the battery feed to AIR pump feed circuit using a fused jumper. The pump should activate. If not, check for powericon1.png and ground present at the AIR pump when jumpered. If there is no voltage/ground present at pump repair open in wiring harness. If voltage and ground is present, but pump still does not run, suspect a bad AIR pump. If after jumpering the AIR pump feed circuit the pump activates then the problem is likely the AIR pump relay. Replace and retest.
If the scan tool activates the AIR pump, with KOER (Key on engine running) activate the AIR pump solenoid valve on and see if there is vacuum to the cutoff valve. It should have vacuum present to open the valve. If there is no vacuum present, check the AIR pump's vacuum solenoid valve for vacuum supply from the manifold. If there is vacuum present then the vacuum solenoid is likely bad. Replace it. If there is no vacuum present at the supply to the vacuum solenoid, check for a plugged or damaged vacuum line or plugged vacuum port. But if there is vacuum present at the cut-off valve, shut the engine off and using a vacuum pump, apply vacuum to the cut-off valve and see if it holds a vacuum and that air flows through it when vacuum is applied. If it doesn't hold vacuum or the valve doesn't flow when vacuum is applied, replace the cut-off valve. If the cut-off valve works properly, inspect the check valve for obstruction or to see if it's missing. Replace as necessary.
Check the steel line to the exhaust catalyst as well as the exhaust ports for damage or holes that could give a false reading.

P0411(VAG 16795) secondary air injection system


Had the same problem on an '01 Cabrio. Everything else checked out there were no vacuum leaks or bad wires.

The problem was a 30 amp fuse located outside the engine fuse box under its own cover. Not a regular fuse this one is just a two inch strip of metal. Mine just had a tiny crack in it. I wouldn't have found it if someone else didn't post the same problem on another forum.

DTC P0455 - Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (no purge flow or large leak)
This indicates a fuel vapor leak or lack of purge flow in the EVAP control system. It means a large leak has been detected. The (EVAP) emission control system prevents the escape of fuel vapors from a vehicle's fuel system. Fuel vapors are routed by hoses to a charcoal canister for storage. Later, when the engine is running a purge control valve opens allowing intake vacuum to siphon the fuel vapors into the engine.

A code p0455 most likely means one or more of the following has happened:
- A loose or improperly affixed gas cap
- A non-conforming gas cap (i.e. not factory/original brand)
- Other leak or damaged piece in EVAP system

With a p0455, the most common repair is to:
Remove and reinstall the gas cap, clear the codes, and drive for a day and see if the codes come back.
Otherwise, replace the gas cap, and/or
Inspect the EVAP system for cuts/holes in tubes/hoses (you may hear a vacuum noise or smell fuel), repair if necessary

DTC P0411/16795: SECONDARY AIR SYSTEM - INCORRECT FLOW DETECTED
Test Requirements
Ensure all fuses are okay, battery voltage is at least 11.5 volts, all electrical accessories are off, A/C is off.
Ensure engine is mechanically sound.
Test Procedure

NOTE
Secondary air system is activated by ECM and blows air into exhaust pipe
upstream of catalytic converter for 100 seconds during a cold start, 41-91°F (5-
33°C). Engine must be cold to perform following test procedure.

1. Ensure fuse and secondary fuse (secondary fuse is 40 amp and is located in fuse holder on top of battery)
are okay. Check hoses and components of Secondary Air Injection System, for damage, loose fit and
improper installation, check vacuum hoses for Secondary Air Injection System. Repair as necessary.
Erase DTC memory. Verify repair. If DTC does not reset, test is complete. Perform ECM relearn
procedure. See TEST DRIVE RELEARN PROCEDURE .
2. Remove engine cover. Disconnect pressure hose from Secondary Air Pump Motor (V101), by pressing
buttons on hose connector. See Fig. 33 . Using scan tool, check Secondary Air Pump Motor (V101) in
scan tool Output Diagnostic Test Mode (Secondary Air Pump Relay activation mode). See OUTPUT
DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODE .
3. Secondary Air Pump Motor (V101) should run in intervals and air should exit pump at hose connection.
If Secondary Air Pump Motor (V101) is okay, go to step 7 . If motor runs and no air exits secondary air
pump motor, replace faulty Secondary Air Pump Motor (V101). Erase DTC memory. Verify repair. Test
is complete. Perform ECM relearn procedure. See TEST DRIVE RELEARN PROCEDURE . If
secondary air pump motor does not run, go to next step.
4. Disconnect Secondary Air Pump Motor (V101) harness connector, install LED test light at secondary air
pump harness connector terminals. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, activate Secondary Air Pump Motor
(V101) in scan tool Output Diagnostic Test Mode (Secondary Air Pump Relay activation mode). See
OUTPUT DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODE . LED test light at Secondary Air Pump Motor (V101) harness
connector should flash. If LED test light at Secondary Air Pump Motor (V101) harness connector does
not flash, go to next step. If LED test light at Secondary Air Pump Motor (V101) harness connector
flashes, replace faulty Secondary Air Pump Motor (V101). Erase DTC memory. Verify repair. Test is
complete. Perform ECM relearn procedure. See TEST DRIVE RELEARN PROCEDURE .
5. Using DVOM check resistance of Secondary Air Pump Motor (V101) wiring. See appropriate WIRING
DIAGRAM under ENGINE PERFORMANCE in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS. Resistance should
be a maximum of 1.5 ohms for each reading. Check wiring for short circuit to one another in Secondary
Air Pump Motor (N101) harness connector. Repair as necessary. Erase DTC memory. Verify repair. Test
is complete. Perform ECM relearn procedure.
Secondary Air Pump Motor (N101) wiring is okay, go to next step.
6. Check Secondary Air Pump Relay (J299) and Secondary Air Pump Relay (J299) wiring. See DTC
P0418/16802: SECONDARY AIR PUMP RELAY (J299), MALFUNCTION . Repair or replace as
necessary. Erase DTC memory. Verify repair. Test is complete. Perform ECM relearn procedure. See
TEST DRIVE RELEARN PROCEDURE .
7. Disconnect vacuum hose from Secondary Air Injection Valve (N112) and disconnect pressure hose from
secondary air pump motor, press buttons on pressure hose connector to disconnect pressure hose. See Fig.
34 . Blow lightly into disconnected pressure hose, Combi-Valve should be closed. Connect hand vacuum
pump to disconnected vacuum hose and apply vacuum to Combi-Valve, Combi-Valve should open. If
Combi-Valve opens when vacuum is applied, Combi-Valve is okay. Go to next step. If Combi-Valve
does not open when vacuum is applied, replace faulty Combi-Valve. Erase DTC memory. Verify repair.
Test is complete. Perform ECM relearn procedure. See TEST DRIVE RELEARN PROCEDURE .
8. Check Secondary Air Injection Valve (N112). See DTC P0412/16796: SECONDARY AIR
INJECTION VALVE (N112), ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION . Repair as necessary.
Erase DTC memory. Verify repair. Test is complete. Perform ECM relearn procedure.
NOTE: Do not use compressed air to check Combi-Valve.
