Question about 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche
I will turn the truck off and the battery light and the radio stays on. I popped the hood and hear a humming sound in the alt. So I unplugged that, took out an ignition fuse out so that everything will turn off on the dash including the radio and its still drawing power and if I let it sit there like that over night, I have to jump it the next morning!
Are you leaving anything plugged in, cellphone charger, radar dector, emergency lights, cb, etc, if so unplug all of it that will kill the battery, if not the case, you got a short somewhere

If you have replaced the switch, and it is still doing it it sounds like you definately have a short somewhere in your wiring. On the other hand if the dimmer is in the turn signal arm ( forward bright back dim ) the problem could also be there in the dimmer switch, such as a short being caused by that dimmer switch being faulty.Auto Zone and Discount Auto Parts both test a lot of your electrical problems for free, and/or may have some knowledge to more accurately pin point the problem. Not sure about Pep Boys or some of the other discount auto part chains.

your radio is staying on? you have a bad door switch.the bcm does not see door opening and thus does not turn radio off. most likely the drivers door.

SOURCE: Factory Stereo Drains Battery
I have had this problem with a few of my cars and I thought the same that my battery was gettin drained by the stereo but really my battery was going bad hich resulted in the radio staying on for some odd reason, but i replaced the battery and all is good with no more problems, so I would take my battery down and have it tested.

if you removed the dome lightbulb then there is no longer a draw from the battery there but if the ashtray light light does not go out then over a period the battery will go dead or drained to the point to not the vehicle
