2000 honda cvic will not start but if you push on the it will try to start but will not stay running

Do you notice anything unusual with the dash lights when you turn the key on. All the warning lights should illuminate. If they do not but then come on as you start to rotate the key into the start position than you probably have a bad ignition switch.

If you turn the key to the start position and hold it there (only do this for a few seconds) will the car stay running until you let go of the key? Another clue that the ignition switch may be bad.

if you turn the key to the start position and the vehicle starts slowly let the key rotate back to the run position until the starter disengages. If the vehicle continues to run let go of the key. If the vehicle stalls than the ignition switch is definitely bad.

Have you you tried just re-programming all of your remotes? I just added a "new" (from Ebay) remote and when re-programming, had to do them all. Here's how... 1. Using a functional key fob transmitter, unlock the vehicle and disarm the Vehicle Theft Security System. 2. Insert ignition key into the ignition switch. 3. Turn the ignition switch to RUN position without starting engine. 4. Using a functional key fob transmitter, press and hold the UNLOCK button for a minimum four seconds (maximum ten seconds) 5. While holding UNLOCK button, and before ten seconds passes, press and release the PANIC button. A single chime will sound to verify that the RKE module is set to receive the new Vehicle Access Code(s) 6. Within 30 seconds of the chime, press and release the "LOCK" and "UNLOCK" buttons on the transmitter at the same time. Then press any one of the buttons. The BCM will sound an abbreviated chime to acknowledge that the programming of the transmitter has been completed and was successful. 7. Repeat step 6 for all transmitters that will be used with this vehicle (up to 4 total) 8. Programming mode will last for 30 seconds. To get out of programming mode sooner, turn the ignition OFF. A single chime will sound to verify that the RKE module will no longer accept additional Vehicle Access Code(s) 9. When Vehicle Access Code(s) programming is complete, turn the ignition switch to the OFF position and verify RKE system operation using each key fob

How do I program my key for my 2006 Chevy Impala?

Add Duplicate Key (PK3 or PK3+ key)
1. Insert an existing key into the ignition cylinder.
2. Turn the ignition cylinder to ON (RUN) and back to OFF.
3. Remove the existing key and, within fifteen seconds, insert the new key
and turn it to ON (RUN).
4. The security light will light up for two seconds to indicate success in programming
the key into the vehicle.
Originate New Master Key (PK3 or PK3+ key)

1. Insert new key into ignition cylinder and turn it to the ON (RUN) position.
The security light on the dash will illuminate and stay on for ten minutes.
2. When the security light goes out, you have one minute to start the next
step. Turn the ignition cylinder to OFF and then back to the ON (RUN)
position. The security light on the dash will illuminate and stay on for ten
more minutes.
3. When the security light goes out, you have one minute to start the next
step. Turn the ignition cylinder to OFF and then back on the ON (RUN)
position. The security light on the dash will illuminate and stay on for ten
more minutes.
4. After the security light has gone off the third time, the key has been programmed
into the vehicle’s computer and will operate the car. It has replaced ALL the
previous electronic key codes and is the ONLY key programmed into the
vehicle’s computer.

Chevy g20 van wouldnt start/stalling

It sounds like it may be a problem with the PATS (Passive Anti Theft System). Chevy has been having problems with PATS since 1992 til current. Even if your key doesn't have a visible "chip" in it, it is possible that you have the PATS system. The newer PATS systems work by recognizing the exact cut of the key. In some cases extremely worn out keys have been known to stop working correctly with your ignition. In worst case scenarios the ignition cylinder itself, which contains the other chip for PATS, wears out so badly that, one time in ten or more your vehicle doesn't recognize the key and fails to start. The logic is this: If a thief tries to jimmy the ignition, the PATS system shuts down the ignition system for 20 minutes (30 on some vehicles). This is supposed to discourage the thief from trying again, while still letting you start your vehicle. There are procedures for bypassing the PATS system on many vehicles, but it is not for the faint of heart. The wiring work itself isn't bad, but there are catches: 1) you must have the vehicle running while you make the modification in most cases, and not shut it off during the bypass. 2) It's recommended you install a switch in the bypassed wire so you can disable your bypass in case your vehicle needs service. 3) if the vehicle dies during the bypass for some reason, you may have to visit the dealership and get a new ignition cylinder, and a quick reprogram of the PCM or ECU to get it going again. Non vat key starts but shuts down, after three tries, will not start at all. Must sit for hours before restart.

I'm assuming that the vehicle has an immobiliser system standard, and that the key has a chip in the head of it. The key itself could be intermittently faulty, or the pickup ring at the ignition barrel. The best option would be to get a new key cut and coded to the vehicle, and just try it. If the fault reoccurs, it's likely that it will be the pickup ring, but it probably needs further diagnosis at that point.
