How low is dangerous low? are you going by factory gauge? need to run it with a mechanical gauge to see exactly what it is doing. if it is too low your only option is to replace oil pump and main bearings. these would be your wear items most likely causing low pressure.

Start by testing your oil pressure sensor, and then if not that drop your oil pan and the screen on your oil pump tube may be restricted. or change the oil pump could be weak

Check for low fuel pressure it should be 9-13 psi when running at idle speed. If its not within these specs then replace the fuel pump and filter.

Low oil pressure

Have you checked the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge or are you going by the gauge in the suburban. If you're going by the electric gauge in the suburban I would suggest checking it with a mechanical gauge. If the mechanical gauge confirms the oil pressure is low then you probably have a serious engine problem. If the mechanical gauge indicates normal pressure the O/P sender is probably the culprit.

Low oil pressure at stop and knocking sound

First check the oil level and condition. Have your trucks oil pressure actually checked with a gage. It should be at least 42p.s.i. to 55p.s.i. The knocking noise is probably related to low oil pressure. Depending on the type of knock it could be crank shaft bearings, piston wrist pins, rod bearings, cam bearings or noisy lifters. All a result from low oil or pressure. 3 possible causes, are low oil level and pressure, lack of oil changes and viscosity of oil breaks down to where it can't lubricate or dissipate heat and coolant getting into oil, reduces pressure and prematurely wears down bearings. Have it properly diagnosed before you seize your engine solid.

More than likely you knocked wires off sending unit - check connections at oil pressure sending unit it's next to your distributor.

I have a 1994 k1500 silverado. My oil pressure sits at about 20 psi at idle even after oil change out. It is just above the red line indication. What should normal oil pressure be?

30 psi would be better but if it comes up after applying throttle you maybe idling too low or you maybe using a viscsity of oil too low for the heat range you are operating the vehicle in.

My 2001 Chevy Suburban is making a loud ticking noise intermittently, it mostly happens at stop lights, but most especially when I start it in the morning. The oil pressure light and gauge show low to zero...

If the oil light and the gauge is showing low to zero pressure then you need to have the pressure checked by someone with a mechanical gauge to varify the pressure is low. Is the oil level at the full mark? I have seen where the oil pickup tube o ring gets hard over time and cracks which can allow the oil pump to draw in air and cause low oil pressure. If you run the engine with very low oil pressure for any length of time there is a chance that the engine may need to be replaced due to lack of lubrication. The chevrolet dealerships still provide very good service. Hope this helps.
